@therealrealTMZ The only way I’ve found to get around this is to change your timeline to “latest tweets.” No algorithm, only chronological. Completely different experience

@alex84analyzes tl;dr. We're talking specifically about people who self-medicate with substances because they can't bear the weight of their trauma. Let's not obfuscate this with semantics
@alex84analyzes Except using substances *is* harmful. Tobacco, alcohol and others do harm to our bodies, cut our lifespans, cause diseases. Stigma doesn't come from saying using substances is harmful. Stigma comes from saying using substances makes you a bad person
@alex84analyzes @mandi_pn @BigFarna Although I also love Meera Atkinson's idea about trauma in terms of cycles. She uses example of Nazism having its roots in trauma due to post-WW1 "traumatic national condition." Perhaps we could also say police have traumatic institutional condition that leads to violence & abuse
@alex84analyzes @mandi_pn @BigFarna I agree-however-we need to distinguish between harm and trauma. A lot of traumatized people may harm others in the way they act out trauma (unhealthy relationships/substance use, etc), but they're not necessarily traumatizing people through violence & abuse
If you need help, please reach out. Having an emotional reaction from hearing about the atrocious history and impacts of Indian Residential Schools is completely justified and normal. What happened was wrong and never should have happened.
