How it started VS how it’s going.
Working in games doesn’t always mean working on blockbuster hits and that’s ok. Regardless of the games we work on, we learn, we grow and we meet some amazing people.
I’ve worked on a lot of games over 18 years. Not all are beloved or well remembered. Gaining experience and learning to work as part of a team is vital to long term success in this industry. You can get that experience on any title. You might not always find your perfect game to work on, but often it’s not about the game, it’s about the people.
I’ve worked on everything from MMOs to mobile games. These experiences made me who I am.
I never treated these jobs like stepping stones or just a chance to build a portfolio. I’d give each project my all and bring passion to every game I released.
Because that’s how I continued to find work despite never having a public portfolio. Through recommendation, because being a team player is often the most important factor.
If you’re passionate on a mobile game you will never play, people know you will do your best on anything.
(Also don’t be afraid of making mistakes, I’m sure my stupid ADHD poo brained antics often annoyed people too. But try do better and don’t dwell on it)
