Your daily reminder that there actually IS enough. There's enough housing, enough food, enough money for everyone to live safe, sustainable, dignified lives. GREED fuels the scarcity & creates a world where only few can thrive. We CAN change this if we want to. Here's some proof:
https://t.co/fSliBY0bfo TUHU members & many others have been working hard for this win! Ppl experiencing homelessness are deserving of space & shelter, options must be plentiful, ultimately we must see housing for all.But immediately-space to exist, sleep, eat and contribute.
@Roman_Baber@gordperks@gordperks didn't' want to debate if marginalised ppl deserved shelter, & instead focused on the zoning details that were up for debate? What a monster!!
Also the city's lawyer backed him as to what was legal to debate & what is not. Not included in your edited video. Shocker.
I am devastated to hear that Sheila did not make it. This story here is just one small example of how she lived her life. A generous and compassionate woman that touched the lives of many. Sending love to her family at this very difficult time. She will not be forgotten.
A woman + baby I know needed a place to live. Sheila @SaveWildBees said yes w/o hesitation, letting them move in way before they could pay. She cut the rent + dealt w ridiculous bureaucracy. And now, we must show up for Sheila. ❤️ Please donate if you can. https://t.co/YM09GFGDyG
TUHU is at City Hall today - several of us are speaking to the damning newly released Street Needs Assessment report - homelessness has more than doubled in the past 3 years. We must see change now. Watch our deputations live here: https://t.co/OJkDM0X3XH
Devastating report. Puts #Toronto on North America map as city with one of the highest %ile of population #homeless. No #righttoshelter and City Hall inaction leaves >1600 forced to survive outside. No media briefing? Meanwhile @MayorOliviaChow in Ireland.
TUHU's letter (referenced in this article) highlights the concerns of people experiencing homelessness, as some neighbours desire to push us out. Don't believe the lies they tell about us. We are people worthy of space, safety, and opportunity.

We call on Councillors to vote against public consultations for shelter sites. None of us have the right to choose our neighbours. Our lives depend on these shelters, and our humanity is not up for debate. Details of the motion & TUHU’s letter here: https://t.co/WiUnzhy8gL
A few pictures of today - TUHU speaking and marching in solidarity with several other tenant unions and community orgs. We aren't going to be pushed out while developers pounce on our neighborhoods with dollar signs in their eyes. Affordable and dignified housing is a human right
TUHU is excited to participate in planning and presenting at this event.Incredible grassroots unions and orgs are conspiring to build our collective power! Join tomorrow for the full day, and/or tonight for the learning panel on financialization of housing. Hope to see you there!
Disabled people are an afterthought, and it's killing us. TUHU members speak out in partnership with @SHJNetwork to call on the city for prioritizing the immediate need for accessibility in the shelter system, TCHC, and beyond. https://t.co/Yqo8hLDXna
There's a mtg on Monday night - great for folks still trying to understand the importance of SCS sites.
Speakers will include: past mayors John Sewell & David Crombie, and Kathleen Wynne, former Premier, and others
7:30pm on Monday, Jan 13 at Trinity St. Pauls - 427 Bloor St. W.
Are you wondering what is helpful to give to people experiencing homelessness during the holiday season?
Here's advice from TUHU members (made up of people who have or are experiencing homelessness)
People get a lot of food at Christmastime from well meaning folks so much 1/
This Friday, Saturday & Sunday are going to be freezing cold. -24 with windchill on Sat. night. The warming centres are full. The city says it will open up an additional 240 spaces this week at the BLC. They must open it tomorrow. Hundreds are stuck outside.
You know that $200 we are all getting?
That money ALONE could have ENDED street homelessness in the entire province!
If put into the COHB program, 50,000 homeless could have had 5 yr subsidies for mkt rent units IMMEDIATELY. Instead, the Premier villianizes and criminalizes.
One of the greatest deceptions of our time is the lie that that single mom on welfare or the kid getting free food at school is the problem instead of the ultra rich hoarding more wealth than billions of people have combined and getting tax breaks for doing so.
Mayors from across Ontario have asked for our help to deal with homeless encampments that are taking over public spaces and making their communities unsafe. I agree. Enough is enough.
Today, I let them know that we will be stepping up with new measures to protect communities and clear out encampments while getting people the help they need.
