On this day & in this room, in 1776, the Second Continental Congress passed Richard Henry Lee's Resolution for Independence, declaring the 13 colonies assembled free & independent states. John Adams said the day would go down in history, but the day on the Declaration won. #OTD
On this day in 1685, John Gay (who may or may not be the gent pictured nearby) was born to mock prominent persons in plays he worte, most notably in 'The Beggars Opera,' which gave us the sea captain Macheath and so, in a way, Bobby Darrin's greatest number. #OTD
On this day in 1943, Eva Narcissus Boyd was born to become Little Eva and teach us all a brand new dance dreamed up, in lyrical form ta least, by Gerry Goffin and Carole King. The song's been a hit at least three times but for me, the only one that matters is Eva's. #OTD
On this day in 1927, Robert James Keeshan was born to become the one & only Captain Kangaroo, a "...round-faced, pleasant, mustachioed man possessed of an unshakable calm ... " who became one of TV's most enduring characters. No wonder Nancy Sinatra name checked him. #OTD
On this day in 1956, Christopher Joseph Isaak was born to play the guitar, write, play, and sing songs, and take on the occasional acting job, on TV and in film, he seems not to be fussy. With his Chet Baker looks and improbable story, I should be a skeptic. But I'm a fan. #OTD
