I feel like, like every other industry, in software all the opportunities are getting saturated at the top. Either you are really good and have a lot of options or you are average and then this job market won't spare you.

Luck favors those who put in the extra work. The clean coherent commit style, the demo videos while cold emailing people and so on, while none of this was explicitly required.
