If Bam Adebayo’s historic night proved anything, it’s that a lot of fans don’t watch the game to appreciate greatness - they watch it to protect the past.

They don’t celebrate unprecedented performances anymore. They nitpick them. Some won’t even acknowledge what happened because it threatens old memories and the identity they built around them.

Modern players can’t win: if they make history, the reflex is always the same - ‘OK, but…’

It’s sad how nostalgia has turned greatness into a debate instead of a moment.
