Researchers at the Karolinska Institute put newborns face down on their mothers' bare stomachs after delivery and filmed what happened. Nobody helped. Within the hour, most of them had hauled themselves up the body, found the nipple, and started to feed.
The sequence turned out to be the same across every baby they watched, and it has since been documented in Sweden, Italy, Japan and the United States. Nine stages, always in the same order: a cry at birth, then stillness, waking, movement and a rest. Then crawling, using the legs to push against the mother's abdomen. Then mouthing and touching the breast, then feeding, then sleep.
The whole hour counts, resting stages included, which means a newborn who looks like he has given up is simply between steps and will start again.
None of this is learned. A baby in the womb has nothing to latch onto and no rehearsal. The equipment arrives assembled, which is ordinary in mammals and quietly astonishing in a species whose infants cannot hold up their own heads.
The finding changed delivery room practice, because hospitals had been taking babies away for weighing and cleaning during exactly that window. Later work found labour medication and separation both disrupt the sequence. Babies who miss it struggle more with feeding afterward.
An infant less than sixty minutes old, unable to see much beyond the length of an arm, knows where to go.

Researchers at Fred Hutchinson examined the brains of 59 women after death. In 63 percent of them they found male DNA, almost certainly left behind by a son. The oldest of those women was 94, and the cells were still sitting there.
Around week four or five of pregnancy, before most women have told anyone, a handful of the baby's cells cross into the mother's bloodstream. Some of them never leave. Scientists call it microchimerism, meaning you are carrying a few of another person's cells inside you. Doctors at Leiden University in the Netherlands checked organs from women who had recently been pregnant and found the baby's cells in every single one. Liver, lungs, thyroid, kidneys, bone marrow, skin, heart.
They do not sit idle. When researchers in Ireland biopsied cesarean scars from 70 women, they found the baby's cells living in the skin as ordinary skin cells, making collagen and repair proteins right at the cut. The child helped close the wound its own birth made.
At Mount Sinai, scientists tagged fetal cells with a glowing marker in pregnant mice, then damaged the mothers' hearts. The fetal cells went to the injury. They became heart muscle and the lining of blood vessels. Nobody has proven the human version yet, but doctors have noticed for years that women who develop heart failure around childbirth recover better than almost any other kind of heart failure patient.
In a study of 177 women, fetal cells appeared in the blood of 85 percent of the healthy participants and only 64 percent of the women who had a very early, non-invasive breast cancer. Nobody has worked out yet whether the cells are doing the protecting. The same cells also turn up in Hashimoto's, an immune condition that attacks the thyroid, so this is a gift with complications.
A French team looked at umbilical cord blood in 2021 and found cells belonging to the baby's grandmother in 5 of 28 samples. Cells that crossed one placenta decades earlier had crossed a second one. Three generations of women, alive in a single bloodstream.
Which means the pull a mother feels toward her child has a physical form. It sits in her liver, her heart, and often her brain, and it stays there for the rest of her life.

Anticipate an influx of stories like this.
Some will be genuine tragedies. Some will be misreported, selectively amplified, recycled, algorithmically boosted and fabricated. What matters is the pattern being constructed and what the public is eventually asked to support because of it.
β Normalizing the idea that mothers experiencing postpartum distress are potentially dangerous
β Creating public demand for mandatory postpartum psychiatric screening
β Expanding compulsory treatment and involuntary hospitalization
β Building justification for specialized psychiatric institutions marketed as maternal care
β Increasing pharmaceutical intervention during pregnancy and postpartum
β Creating larger government databases around maternal mental health
β Lowering the threshold for wellness checks, child welfare intervention and removal of children
β Expanding surveillance of women through doctors, schools, social workers and digital health systems
β Conditioning fathers and families to treat postpartum women as potential threats requiring external supervision
β Generating fear around pregnancy, motherhood and large families
β Further depressing birth rates by portraying parenthood as psychologically dangerous and socially unstable
β Driving enormous new streams of public funding toward psychiatric systems, pharmaceutical companies, nonprofits, consultants and specialized treatment networks
β Using spectacular crimes as emotional leverage for legislation that would receive considerably more resistance under ordinary circumstances
They are narrative seeding: repeatedly presenting highly emotional examples until the population begins demanding the institutional response that policymakers, industries or advocacy networks already wanted.
That does not require every story to be fabricated. Propaganda has never required inventing every event. Selection, repetition, framing and amplification can do plenty of the fucking work.
So archive the headlines now. Then watch what legislation, funding initiatives, pharmaceutical campaigns and new maternal mental health infrastructure appear afterward.
Yes this is epic.

If you had trusted the settled science of the day, here is how it would have gone.
1890s: you dose the baby with Bayer's new cough syrup, the non-addictive alternative to morphine, marketed for children. It was heroin. They named it after the German for heroic.
1900s: you rub calomel teething powder on your infant's gums. It is a mercury compound, and it leaves a generation with pink disease. Swollen, peeling hands and feet, screaming for months, and some of them died.
1910s: you cook in Crisco, launched by a soap and candle company, because cottonseed oil is modern and lard is what your mother used. The process that made it solid produced trans fat, banned outright a century later.
1920s: you drink Radithor, certified radioactive water, on prescription. Eben Byers took fourteen hundred bottles for his vitality. His jaw was removed in pieces and he was buried in a lead coffin.
1930s: a chemist dissolves a new sulfa drug in diethylene glycol, which is antifreeze. It kills 107 people, mostly children, and only then does America give the FDA power to demand safety testing.
1940s: your doctor lights a Camel in the surgery. More doctors smoke them than any other brand, and the advert runs in the Journal of the American Medical Association, which sold him the page.
1950s: DDT is sprayed over your kitchen, your garden and your children at school. The man who found its insecticidal properties has already been given a Nobel Prize.
1960s: your wife takes thalidomide for morning sickness because it is remarkably safe. More than ten thousand children are born with missing and shortened limbs.
1970s: the country puts down the butter and picks up the margarine, on the instruction of the American Heart Association. The fat everybody switched to was banned in 2015 as unsafe at any level.
1980s: the fat comes out of everything and sugar goes back in to make it edible. Obesity begins a climb it has never come off.
1990s: your father is prescribed OxyContin, because fewer than one per cent get addicted. The company later pleads guilty to criminal misbranding, and the overdose count runs into hundreds of thousands.
2000s: you take Vioxx for your knee. It is pulled in 2004, and the FDA's own safety officer estimates tens of thousands of excess heart attacks.
Not one of those was fringe. Every one had a professional body, a literature and a man in a white coat standing behind it.
Nobody who followed that advice was stupid. They were obedient, to the most qualified people available.
Settled is a word about money. It means the questions stopped being funded, so they stopped being asked.
So which of today's instructions will your grandchildren read out in disbelief.
The oil washed in hexane and built into every cell you own. The statin that blocks the pathway making your hormones, to prevent one heart attack per hundred people. The injection where a third of the loss is muscle. The infant formula built out of vegetable oil.
All settled. None of it funded to be otherwise.
Does Israel have a right to exist?
Dr. Abdul El-Sayed: "Nobody ever asks whether Palestine has a right to exist. Israel exists. A better question is: Does Israel have a right to our tax dollars?"
Donβt fall for the fake Fox/GOP outrage. Two weeks ago the House passed a bill that greenlighted the transfer of Spanish territory to Morocco. Every Republican except me voted for it, but now THEY are acting shocked at the invasion.
