Breaking: Roger Garcia, Douglas County commissioner whose district includes South Omaha, is confirming immigration raids happening in at least three locations. Standing outside the JBS Beef plant, he says he’s working with community members to fan out and learn more.

Molli Surdell, standing outside JBS, showed up because video of a man getting recently detained at a West Omaha brunch spot is “seared into” her.

“They’re important members of our nation and the Omaha community. I’m just a random person who cares…and is heartbroken.”

An Omaha Police Dept squad car is blocking the east entrance to Glenn Valley Foods in South Omaha, denying access to the plant. A few protesters are gathering across the street after hearing news of a potential ICE raid here on social media.

Flavio, a Glenn Valley Foods worker, told the Flatwater Free Press in Spanish he believes about 50 workers are still inside the plant. Flavio, a US resident, was allowed to leave. He guesses 40 law enforcement agents entered the plant, including some with “DHS” on their uniforms.

Karla Cabrera, whose aunt is a Glenn Valley worker, said her aunt told her by phone that law enforcement rushed in wearing masks. Officers asked those believed to be undocumented to sign a document, but it wasn’t translated into Spanish, leading to anger and confusion.
