झारखंड में पेपर लीक के विरोध में छात्रों का आंदोलन लगातार तेज़ हो रहा है। बड़ी संख्या में अभ्यर्थी परीक्षाओं में हो रही धांधली के ख़िलाफ़ सड़क पर उतरकर संघर्ष कर रहे हैं।

लेकिन उनके आंदोलन में करोड़ों रुपये की स्पॉन्सरशिप नहीं है। वहाँ गाली-गलौज नहीं हो रही, देश तोड़ने के नारे नहीं लग रहे, सार्वजनिक संपत्ति पर हमला नहीं हो रहा, और न ही विपक्ष के नेता कैमरे लेकर दौड़े चले आ रहे हैं। दीपके, दास और रंका जैसे तथाकथित “छात्र हितैषी” गायब हो गए हैं।

छात्र आंदोलनों का अपना एक चरित्र होता है।

जो आज राँची में हो रहा है, वह छात्रों का वास्तविक आंदोलन है, परीक्षा व्यवस्था में पारदर्शिता और न्याय की माँग का आंदोलन।

अब इस मामले को ही देख लीजिए।

इंदौर में "महाराणा प्रताप वेलफेयर सोसाइटी" के नाम से एक वृद्ध आश्रम चल रहा है। वहाँ एक नाबालिग लड़का अक्सर बुजुर्गों के साथ मारपीट करता है और बेचारों के पास सब कुछ सहने के अलावा कोई रास्ता नहीं है।

क्या आप कभी सोच सकते हैं कि अपने ही जीवन में ऐसा दुख झेलना पड़े, जैसा ये बेबस बुजुर्ग झेल रहे हैं?

Now that the protests at Jantar Mantar are over, they leave behind questions that deserve serious reflection.

What began in the name of students ended up revealing something far more troubling. Videos that circulated from the protest appeared to show slogans calling for the restoration of Article 370, demands for “Azad Kashmir”, abuse directed at Hindu deities, the sexualisation of women, and calls for the release of those accused in the Delhi riots. If these videos accurately reflect what transpired, then the movement had clearly strayed far from the legitimate concerns of students.

Student grievances in a democracy should always be heard with empathy and addressed through dialogue. But no cause is strengthened when a protest becomes a platform for divisive, abusive, or extremist messaging. Such rhetoric does not advance education or reform; it erodes the very civic values that make democratic dissent meaningful.

Perhaps the most unsettling aspect was not merely the slogans, but the culture on display. The casual normalisation of abuse, vulgarity, performative outrage, and crass assertions in the name of being “progressive” should concern all of us. It raises uncomfortable questions about the values being absorbed by a section of our younger generation and what this means for families, our schools and universities, and society at large. The family remains the smallest and most important social unit, and when civility, respect, and responsibility begin to erode there, the consequences inevitably spill into the public sphere.

The Jantar Mantar protests may have ended, but they offered a glimpse into a deeper and more worrying trend: the steady lowering of standards for what is considered acceptable social behaviour in public life. That is something India must reflect upon collectively, irrespective of political affiliation.

Kolkata Police has arrested 11 in connection with incident of violence during the students rally in Kolkata on 24th July.

Addl CP Crime Kunal Aggarwal says, "Total 11 accused were arrested in connection with violence yesterday & attacks on journalists. None of them are students. They are all trouble mongers who were present at CJP rally yesterday & engaged in vandalism."

The 11 arrested are, Irfan Khurshed (30), Arshad Ali @ Sajid (50), Md Moinuddin (26), Md Alamgir @ Raju (48), Imran Ahmed @ Gopi (19), Khalid Reja @ Rinku (47), Zamir Ahmed @ Minku (42), Mohsin Khan (30), Dipak Bhowmick @ Vicky (38), Md Azad, and Md Afroz.

Addl CP Crime Kunal Aggarwal says that Md Azad and Md Afroz were trying to flee from West Bengal, but were caught on Durgapur expressway near Andal.

#WATCH | Delhi: ACP Vivek Bhagat says, "Yesterday, I was on duty in sector one zone one which includes the main Jantar Mantar area. I was on duty during the day and I had evening shift as well, so during the evening shift, I was going to report from Regal building which is Connaught Place, via Sansad Marg, at the red light of Tolstoy and Sansad Marg. I had a staff of five or six who were walking ahead and with me was an ACP probationer Rohit and my operator Navneet. So as we were walking ahead, we realized that water bottles were being thrown at the staff in front and hooting and anti-social slogans were being raised against the police. So as soon as our police staff moved back and forth a little there, some of them moved forward to save their lives and one of them was overpowered by the crowd. Blood was coming out of his head. His entire face was covered in blood, so I tried to intervene to rescue him from there. We even brought him a meter or two forward, but the crowd was so huge and violent. They even overpowered me. The crowd was so violent. Police officers were specifically targeted, isolating them and attacking them..."

#WATCH | Delhi police inspector Nandkishor, who was injured yesterday during the protest at Jantar Mantar, says, "I was on night duty at Jantar Mantar. The crowds were so intense, I couldn't find a place to park. I found a spot on Hanuman Mandir Road; after that, I was walking from there. There were a lot of students. I didn't feel scared cause they were students... When I arrived at Sansad Marg, there was a crowd of about 2.5 thousand people there... Then they suddenly got angry and came towards me, saying that tear gas shells had been fired; we're being attacked... Then they kicked me from behind and started punching me. There were about 150 people who attacked me... There was a police team that saved me... I was admitted to the RML hospital. Senior officers have also been injured... These are not students who have attacked people like this on seeing the police uniform or even the CRPF personnel; they are targeting those who are in uniform. They are anti-social elements... Whoever is seen in uniform, be it from the Rapid Action Force, police or CRPF, they are being beaten on sight... Police vehicles were also damaged there... Whoever is going out alone, they are targeting him."
