Yesterday was my last day of working at Google. Perhaps this comes as surprise to you twitter folks, as I haven't widely announced that I left academia to try something new. Here's what I learned in 9 months as a Data Analyst who (temporarily) left Astronomy for Big Tech. 1/n
@shelbyn_23 Couldn't agree more. This is why I only work 4.5 hours a day. V aware only possible because I'm privileged to have a job where 60% pay is enough.

@PeopleOfUK I'm learning Romanian, taking weekly online evening classes for a year now - my goal is to get better at Romanian than my partner's dad is at English - it's gonna be a while 😅
@BadNests To be fair the pigeon obviously saw this tweet and took the feedback on board because the next day a single twig had been placed somewhere in the vague vicinity
@PeopleOfUK I have a running belt which carries two small water bottles, so the rucksack would mostly be for a change of clothes (light summer clothes atm so maybe something like that would still work!)
@SoCraTes_Conf do I get a confirmation email that I entered the lottery? Because I'm pretty sure I did, but can't find anything in my inbox to prove it..
@__apf__@philz42 +1 for panniers. Game changer. No more sweaty backs! I even use a small pannier when not-commuting these days. That and clip -in pedals will help you up those hills!
@trai13@AlexSyse@blakeaburge Drove me nuts too! Then I discovered bone conducting headphones which are perfect for running and walking (they are like a headband that hooks around your ears). I also have soft headband headphones for wearing in bed and big noise-cancelling ones for planes/trains.
