As we approach the start of a new year I’m convinced that the Lord is calling the UK church to a new level of extraordinary holiness. Salt must bring a different flavour & light a distinct brightness. We are called to be influencers of society not the influenced, sharing hope
The Lord didn’t check who inside the house was worthy. He checked for blood on the doorposts.
None of us is worthy. Only the blood of Jesus can cover us.
Man and Woman
One of the beautiful truths of the creation account is how God makes sure everything has its divinely designed place. To accomplish this, he makes separations. Indeed, the Hebrew verb badal (בדל), which means to "separate" or "divide," occurs 5x in Genesis 1.
This means light is light and darkness is darkness. But light is not darkness and darkness is not light.
This means day is day and night is night. But day is not night and night is not day.
This means heaven is heaven and earth is earth. But heaven is not earth and earth is not heaven.
What a chaotic world it would be if we called the light "darkness" or the waters "land." Each has its place, its name, its God-given existence and purpose in this world.
We see the same beautiful truth in the creation of man and woman. Man is created from the soil. Woman is created from the side of man, formed, then brought back to the man. Separation and reunion. Taken out and taken back.
Man is man and woman is woman. The man is not a woman and the woman is not a man. And, in God's lovely design, the two who are separate from one another, and different from one another, are reunited to become one flesh in marriage.
What a chaotic world it would be if we called man "woman" and woman "man." Each is God's unique creation, his image-bearer, created for marital union with one another.
And of this world, we read that God saw everything that he had made and, behold, it was very good. You can't improve on that.
An 11 year old girl shot dead in front of her family in France, her father is critically injured.
Two 19-year-old students and a man in his 50s stabbed to death in Nottingham.
These are dark days.
Lord have mercy.
Lord we pray for comfort for these grieving families.
God invites us through Sabbath to work from our rest, not rest from our work. The very act of stopping each week for a 24-hour period forces us to face things we may have kept hidden from ourselves and to experience His love afresh.
Our son lost his art portfolio that he needs to pass his GCSE on the 18.37 train from Strawberry Hill to Waterloo on Wednesday. It’s a clear A3 plastic wallet with a black art book in. Pls ring the number on the outside if you see it. Pls retweet! Thanks!

Only half of the pastor’s work is to gather the people together for worship. The other half is to send them back to their daily tasks equipped to be the salt of the earth and the light of the world. If we forget this second part, the other can be positively dangerous.
Absolutely love this from the brilliant @BukayoSaka87. Reading his Bible everyday at the World Cup, keeping his eyes fixed on the Lord & maintaining the most amazing perspective under such pressure to perform on a football pitch
The limit of Sabbath keeps us grounded and humble, reminding us we are not in charge of running the world. It breaks our self-will and grows in wisdom.
Stopping for Sabbath is one of God's great gifts to us. It limits us. #EHDiscipleship#Sabbath
How to serve your church today:
1. Be there
2. Sing with gusto
3. Really listen to others
4. Welcome newcomers
5. Pray along with the prayers
6. Encourage those who served
7. Talk to people different than you
8. Apply the sermon to yourself not other people
What else?
So very sad to hear of the passing of the most amazing monarch imaginable. The Queen has served incredibly & was also the greatest evangelist I could think of. Praying for the family, the nation & many others as we face up to this news. May she rest in peace & rise in glory
Imagine heaven welcoming her. Imagine Christ embracing her.
The Queen and her Saviour.
Rest in peace and rise in glory, good and faithful servant.

Lord have mercy on us.
