I am here to read, chuckle, internally fume, wonder, ruminate, and perhaps witness the slow death of my book reading habits. Adding twitter followers is plain burdensome. #justsaying
Earlier today US and Israel bombed Isfahan, a city that is home to some of Iran’s (and the world’s) greatest cultural and architectural structures. This image is from the Naqsh-e Jahan Square, built in the 16th-17th century and a UNSECO World Heritage Site.
exclusive: Indian gov't officials in May quietly greenlit a plan to steer ~$3.9 billion in taxpayer funds to Modi’s billionaire ally Gautam Adani in order to, among other things, signal "confidence" in his empire + encourage investor participation, gov't docs we obtained show. The plan came months after Adani's DOJ and SEC charges, which have plagued the billionaire, and docs show funds are steered from India's Life Insurance Corporation, which underwrites life insurance for poor + rural Indian families.
One the richest, most powerful & well connected businessman in the world is fighting small independent you-tubers. A man who owns one of India's biggest media conglomerates is discovering that news content creators with one camera - broadcasting from one room - have one thing ....that money cant buy.
During India's First Emergency (besides the notable exception of @IndianExpress) - it were the smaller independent publications that stood their ground & gave Indira Gandhi a tough time. Publications like #Himmat & #Pratap didn't bend despite hundreds of journalists being sent to jail & courts being a mute spectator.
Today, 50yrs down the line - as history repeats itself, we at @thedeshbhakt are proud to keep that tradition alive along with a select group of individuals. The tradition of questioning people in power & not bending to money & muscle.
On the 16th of September - a Delhi Court passed an ex-parte injunction order against nine journalists & organisations (including @paranjoygt & @t_d_h_nair) who had been regularly reporting on Adani.
While such orders have become mundane in New India - what set this apart was a 'John Doe' on the 10th defendant. This basically allowed Adani to make a list of people that IT THOUGHT was making 'defamatory content' against it - these people were not even NAMED in the defamation suit.
Now independent youtubers & publications such as @ravish_journo, @ajitanjum, @newslaundry, @dhruv_rathee, @abhisar_sharma and yours truly have been given 36 hours to delete over 200 pieces of content - without any opportunity to contest this order.
Whatever your political leanings may be - know that this is now beyond politics and this silencing will impact everyone.
We take this move as a compliment and this is testament to the power & credibility that small independent Digital Publications have been able to garner. We thank each and every member of the Deshbhakt family for their trust and support.
We do not know when OR IF the higher courts will reverse this alarming order - but we will carry on our mission to punch up, question everything & fight for our Democracy.
As for the legal angle - there is a laundry list of businessmen who tried to silence journalists using the courts - usually it didn't end very well for them.
2. With the help of experts, starting early in August, we began to collate data on voters on the January 25 final list and the draft Bihar SIR list.
This was the only way to find systemic errors and frauds.
Here’s a video produced by “Led by Donkeys” out of the U.K. that puts down the timeline of how Musk used X to get Donald Trump elected. I would save it because I don’t think it will be up for long.
Is it time for a complete overhaul of our banking and regulatory systems? Here's food for thought. Throwing RBI rules to the winds, Central and state govt agencies are doing business with a bank located in a tax haven with a history that’s best described as dodgy. The Finance Ministry is looking the other way as rules are violated for Euro Exim Bank Limited headquartered in the Caribbean. A month long investigation by The Wire.
Here’s a thread.

Bhimrao Ambedkar sat on a gunny sack at school & had to wait for the peon to give him water as being an untouchable he could not touch the tap or surai.
When he passed the 4th standard in school his Mahar community wanted to organize a feast as no one had studied that far.
He was the first Indian to obtain a Doctorate in Economics from abroad. His work ' Waiting for a Visa' was a textbook in his alma mater, Columbia University. He was a prolific reader, with a personal library of over 50,000 books even though he lost a whole lot when the ship bringing his books from his Columbia days was torpedoed.
His work, 'The Problem Of The Rupee : Its Origin And Its Solution' and his presentation to the Hilton Young Commission is regarded as one of the primary inspirations behind the creation of the RBI
He led the team that drafted our constitution. He opposed Article 370, wanted a uniform civil code & resigned when his bill demanding equal share for women in inheritance & equal status in marriage was stalled in parliament.
On B R Ambedkar's birth anniversary, remembering a giant.
