As part of the International Women’s Day Celebrations 2026, Dr. Anitha Gera and Dr. Indira Rani from NCMRWF participated in the International Women’s Day Celebration held at Manekshaw Centre Auditorium, New Delhi, organised by the Ministry of Women and Child Development.
The programme was graced by the presence of the Hon’ble President of India, Droupadi Murmu, and brought together women achievers from diverse fields, including science, governance, innovation and public service, to celebrate the spirit of Nari Shakti and women-led development.

Day 3 of Supercomputing India 2025 featured a panel discussion on “Supercomputing and Operational Numerical Weather Prediction”, which explored the critical role of HPC in atmospheric science. The experts highlighted India’s progress with top-tier supercomputers for weather forecasting, advancements in global atmospheric models, and CSIR–4PI’s journey in climate modelling and simulation. They discussed regional climate change projections, extreme-event forecasting, and the 24×7 computational demands of modern prediction systems. The panel noted that today’s HPC blends CPU and GPU architectures, while the future points toward quantum-enabled forecasting. With growing data volumes from satellites and sensors, next-generation HPC will be essential for real-time climate intelligence. The session reinforced that precision forecasting is not just science but a pillar of national preparedness powered by computation.

Honoured to host the distinguished WMO–ACMAD delegation at NCMRWF during their visit to India (24–28 Nov 2025).
Led by Mr. Bernard Gomez (WMO), Dr. Ousmane Ndiaye (DG, ACMAD), Mr. Godefroid Nshimirimana, and Ms. Wendlasida Combere, the team explored collaboration opportunities in meteorology, climate services, AI/ML-based early warning systems, and hydrometeorology.
This visit strengthens South–South cooperation, advancing multi-hazard early warning, climate resilience, and capacity building across the Global South.
The Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) hosted a high-level delegation from the African Centre for Meteorological Applications for Development (ACMAD) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) for strategic discussions on enhancing collaboration in meteorology, ocean science, climate services, and hydrometeorology.
The meeting was chaired by Secretary, MoES, Dr. M. Ravichandran, alongside DG, IMD, Dr. Mrityunjay Mohapatra. The delegation explored partnerships in AI, ML, and advanced technologies to strengthen forecasting systems and climate resilience across Africa.
This engagement marks a significant step in advancing South–South cooperation and improving early warning and climate decision-support systems across the Global South.
