Check out this great story about our recent ES&T paper 👇
Key message: the future pollution impacts from EVs in China and India will depend a lot on supply chain emissions for batteries.

If you are at #AGU24, drop by for our session on Advancing Social Science and Justice Considerations in Climate Research.
➡️GC21M | Poster | Tuesday 10th Dec | 8:30-12:20 | Hall B-C
➡️GC24C | Oral | Tuesday 10th Dec | 16:00-17:30 | 144A-C
@snkdey Indeed, there's a need to explore alternative chemistries - not only driven by factors of cost, safety, range but also air quality. We do examine LFP chemistry (fig 6) & find SO2 emissions are much lower than the currently popular NMC chemistries due to the lower nickel content

A big thanks to all the co-authors, and esp
@WeiPeng_Pton with whom I worked as a postdoc during this project
And hope to further engage in discussions on just transition pathways for the transport sector

➡️ Tho batteries are likely to play an imp role in the emission impacts of EV transition, assessing the subnational distribution involves huge uncertainties as it depends on factors like battery technology choices and EV supply chain development

As US announces a new set of trade duties on Chinese imports, resharing our paper where we found that the unilateral trade duties imposed by the US on Chinese solar and wind components between 2011-19 did NOT increase domestic manufacturing jobs in the US.
THREAD: In our new paper in RSER, we argue that countries are unlikely to promote domestic RE manufacturing by imposing trade duties on their trading partners.
