WHY IT TOOK ME TWO REVIEW CYCLES

After graduation, I enrolled in a review center to prepare for the May 2016 CPALE. To my surprise, it seemed that I had much to learn about the coverage that I was not able to learn/master back in college. Despite attending all review classes and studying all the handouts, I had a disappointing performance in the first preboards, which I intended to use as my gauge if I was ready enough to take the CPALE. I started having doubts if I was even capable of passing the CPALE. I feared the thought of failing considering that I am already a lawyer and people around have high expectations. Mas natakot ako mapahiya kaysa gustuhing maging CPA.

But, a heart-to-heart talk with my mentor changed my outlook. He said, "Hindi mo kailangang maging CPA this May 2016. If hindi ka pa ready, just defer and keep studying. Huwag mo isipin sasabihin ng iba. Abogada ka na. May naachieve ka na. Wala kang kailangang patunanyan sa ibang tao. I know you can make it, pero if you don't feel like taking it this May, then take it when you're really ready. Hindi nakakahiyang umulit ng review."

I changed my strategy. Of the 8 subjects back then, I picked the hardest 4. I spent my time mastering those 4 and continued to attend the review classes on those 4 subjects and finish the handouts/quizzes. I still took the final preboards to track my progress. It was as if I was taking the May 2016 CPALE, but I was not going to. Then when I enrolled for another cycle. I aimed to take the October 2016 CPALE. I focused on the 4 remaining subjects, but gave some time to review the hardest 4 and maintain my momentum.

And the rest, as they say, is history.

WHEN IT COMES TO OUR DREAMS, WE ARE OUR OWN PILOT. EVERYONE ELSE CAN EITHER BE A MOTIVATOR OR JUST AN OBSERVER.
