Through our SC/ST cell at @sewanyaya, we raised a complaint against an MP, who married under Christian rituals at St Paul's Cathedral Church, Ranchi, Jharkhand, despite being elected from Scheduled Tribe-reserved Rajmahal constituency

Our complaint said that adopting institutional Christian practices indicates conversion and abandonment of traditional tribal customs/Sarna faith, thereby violating the constitutional intent of Scheduled Tribe reservation and compromising the legitimate political representation of genuine, non-converted indigenous tribal populations

We sought the intervention of National Human Rights Commission in the matter for initiating an inquiry into the MP's religious/cultural status and recommend appropriate action to the Election Commission of India

Taking cognizance, @KanoongoPriyank has initiated an inquiry and made Ministry of Minority Affairs and Department of Social Justice and Empowerment as parties

This comes amid loud demands for delisting of individuals from ST status upon conversion
