One of the common objections I hear about doing any kind of self-care work is “I don’t have time”. Today I’m going create a slow 🧵 of gentle New Year’s Resolutions you could make to so it could feel like you have more ease in the time you do have.
Let’s start with:
Hi 👋 I'm Ahmed, I'm a Muslim mental health doctor. For the last 12 years, I've swapped shifts so colleagues can celebrate the festive period with their loved ones. This year I'm working Christmas Eve, Christmas Day & Boxing Day in Emergency Psychiatry. Merry Christmas everyone.
Another dog walk. Got talking to an old pal.
Him: You're not still banging on about Covid are you?
Me: Well yes because it's being brushed under the carpet & just ignoring it puts everyone at continued risk.
Him: It's over. Live your life.
Me: My daughter is very vulnerable.

Chucking out a huge thank you to an amazing statistics lecturer I had during my undergrad at the University of Birmingham whose lecture slides I still refer back to! @AnkeCollier
Grateful to have gained such a solid foundation in research methods 🙏🏽
COVID-19: Things everyone should know (Part 1: Immune System)
With poor public health messaging, the general public doesn't seem to know some important things about how COVID-19 and the immune system actually works. 🧵1/
How I approach WHOLE CLASS FEEDBACK
1) Define two aspects of excellence
2) Live model examples of this excellent from student work in the feedback lesson
3) Complete a Together Task that helps everyone to get better
Voted Yes to the @UCU strike to fight against everything resulting from the marketisation of education: stolen pension, salaries stagnation and casualised contracts ...

One thing I don't think anyone talks seriously enough about is the absolute culture shock of coming to university. Particularly, as a student from a more working-class background.
It's not "masks everywhere forever" vs "masks nowhere ever".
Good quality masks are a tool we can use to reduce transmission in appropriate settings to mitigate against the overall impact of covid.
