His name is Ranjitsinh Disale.

He wanted to be an engineer. When that did not work out, his father suggested he train as a teacher instead.

In 2009, he was posted to a government primary school in Paritewadi, a small village in Solapur district, Maharashtra. The school was a crumbling building wedged between two storerooms, one of which had been used as a cattle shed.

What he found there troubled him.

Girls were being married off young instead of being sent to class. Attendance was poor. The textbooks were written in a language many of the children, who spoke Kannada at home, could not properly read.

He decided to fix all of it, starting with the books.

He learned the children’s mother tongue and rewrote their textbooks in a language they could actually understand.

Then he did something no one in India was doing at the time.

He printed unique QR codes inside the textbooks, allowing students with access to a phone to scan a page and instantly access audio poems, video lessons and practice questions.

A village school in Solapur had built a digital classroom out of paper and printed squares.

The results changed the village.

Girls’ attendance reached nearly one hundred percent. Teenage marriages in the area stopped. His QR code idea worked so well that the Maharashtra government adopted it across the state.

The following year, the national education body embedded QR codes in textbooks across the country.

In 2020, Ranjitsinh Disale won the Global Teacher Prize. He was chosen from more than twelve thousand nominations across roughly one hundred and forty countries and was the only Indian in the top ten.

The award carried one million dollars, around seven crore rupees.

Then he did something no winner had ever done before.

He announced that he would give away half the prize money, dividing it equally among the other nine finalists so that their work could continue as well.

He said teachers are the real change makers.

He meant all of them, not just himself.

A man who became a teacher only because engineering did not work out changed how an entire country learns, and then gave half his fortune to the people he had competed against.

If by any chance you fall asleep, the seat sticks to your skin. You are forever short of water, the window is like a 21 inch hair dryer. You wish to splash your face with water for some respite, the water in the sink is boiling. The only respite is the guys moving around with buckets with icy water, with an assortment of cold drink bottle submerged in it, sold at the rate of an arm & a leg. You settle for a chilled Frooti. It tastes so godly that you write about it on Twitter 20 years later :)

When the traffic signal was red, a chana chor garam (an Indian snack) vendor was passing by where one of the strings broke and all of it fell down on the road.

This felt personal to people around this.

People helped him out to put his stuff back, asked about the damage and contributed to give him ₹2000 instantly.

She, Kanchan Bai Meghwal (40yrs) an anganwadi cook in Madavada Panchayat, MP and she is a Hero. A Martyr of humanity.

This Monday around noon, kids at the Anganwadi centre were playing outside the facility as part of their daily routine when a swarm of bees suddenly attacked. Kanchan Bai placed herself between the bees and the kids. She saved 20 children.

Kanchan Bai quickly wrapped them one by one in Tarpaulin and mats available there, shielding them with her own body, and rushed them inside the centre.

She absorbed the full force of the attack, protecting those children who were not even her own. By the time the local villagers arrived she had collapsed. She was rushed to a hospital for treatment but did not survive.

Hero Kanchan Bai leaves behind a son, two daughters and a paralysed husband. She was the sole breadwinner of the family. In MP an Anganwadi cook earns Rs 4250/ month. Will the govt now stand by the family she left behind?

To me Kanchan Bai Meghwal is a Hero of Humanity, who laid down her life saving 20 innocent children. A Martyr who sacrificed her life for others.

नोएडा इंजीनियर की मौत के मामले में अब ये कहकर प्रशासन के पाप कम करने की कोशिश की जा रही है कि मृतक युवराज ने तो शराब पी रखी थी। मैं कह रहा हूँ कि अगर शराब पी भी रखी थी, तब भी पुलिस-प्रशासन के इस निकम्मेपन पर पर्दा कैसे पड़ सकता है कि वो ढाई-तीन घंटे के अंदर भी ���स लड़के की जान नहीं बचा पाए। मसला गिरने वाले के शराब पीने का नहीं है, मसला बचाने वालों की योग्यता और नीयत का है। अगर उसकी जगह किसी की गाड़ी के ब्रेक फेल हो जाते और तब वो गड्ढे में गिर जाती, तो क्या अचानक पुलिस, डिज़ास्टर मैनेजमेंट और फायर ब्रिगेड की टीम में काबिलियत आ जाती?

ये देखकर वाकई शर्म आती है कि इतनी बड़े हादसे में प्रशासन के हर तरह से नकारा साबित होने पर आत्मचिंतन करने के बजाय ऐसी बातें करके मामले को हल्का करने की कोशिश की जा रही है।

एक बीजेपी नेता ने तो यहाँ तक कह दिया ��ि तो क्या हो गया, गाँव-देहात में तो ट्रैक्टर-ट्रॉली पलटने से हर दिन ऐसे हादसे होते रहते हैं। ये मामला नोएडा में हो गया, तो आप लोग इतना तूल दे रहे हैं। मतलब गाँव-देहात में अगर हादसों में लोग मरते हैं, तो नोएडा में किसी का वैसे ही मर जाना सामान्य कैसे हो गया?

सच तो ये है कि कहीं भी कोई ऐसे हादसों में मारा जा रहा है, तो वो सामान्य नहीं है। आज ही कि टाइम्स ऑफ इंडिया की रिपोर्ट कहती है कि अकेले दिल्ली में पिछले साल ऐसे हादसों में 250 लोगों की जान गई है जिन्हें टाला जा सकता था।

लेकिन ये सब हमारे सोचने का विषय ही नहीं है। इसके उलट कुछ लोगों को अलग ही चिंता सता रही है। उन्हें इस बात का बुरा लग रहा है कि इस घटना से कुछ लोग योगी सरकार को बदनाम कर रहे हैं।

मतलब 27 साल का लड़का अपने पित��� की आँखों के सामने ज़िंदा पानी में दफ़न हो गया — ये उनके लिए दुख का विषय नहीं है। तीन घंटे का वक़्त मिलने के बाद भी निकम्मा प्रशासन उसे बचा नहीं पाया — ये उनके लिए पीड़ा का सबब नहीं है। इस हादसे के बाद उनकी सबसे बड़ी तकलीफ़ ये है कि इससे कहीं योगी सरकार बदनाम न हो जाए।

हर हादसा प्रशासन के लिए एक मौका भी होता है कि वो आत्मचिंतन करे, मगर चिंतन की आड़ ��ें अगर राजनीतिक नफ़े-नुकसान आ जाएँ, तो व्यवस्था ज़िम्मेदारी लेने के बजाय पीड़ित को ही बदनाम करने लग जाती है।

हैरानी नहीं होगी अगर नशे में गाड़ी चलाकर गड्ढे में गिरकर प्रशासन को बदनाम करने के लिए पुलिस कहीं युवराज पर ही मरणोपरांत केस न कर दे।

Nothing, NOTHING is more disturbing than the death of 27 yr old Noida techie Yuvraj Mehta. On Saturday evening, his car accidently skid to an under-construction site for a mall in Noida’s Sector 150 which had a pit full of drain water. He climbed on top of his car, switched on the torch of his phone and called his father for help. His dad reached within minutes, and so did the cops. But they all stood around the pit, hearing Yuvraj’s desperate pleas for help, through the dense fog.

For nearly two hours, Yuvraj kept screaming to be saved, his car slowly sinking in. The police and the rescue teams apparently refused to jump in, because they could either not swim, or the water was too cold. A delivery boy eventually tied a rope around his waist and jumped in, by which time Yuvraj had drowned, screaming for help for two hours. In front of his inconsolable father. This happened barely a few kilometres away from the national capital. To a guy who must have paid lakhs in taxes like any law abiding citizen. The system failed him when he needed it the most. The Chief Minister of the State has thankfully suspended the CEO of the Noida authority and formed an investigation team. But how are those in authority able to sleep after such a death? How can anyone not get haunted by a young life snatched in this most brutal manner. How?
