An engineer that built this 400m-running humanoid robot explained the wild form:

▫️initially designed it with human arm swing
▫️but swinging arms too much put heavy load on shoulder joints, led to overheating (and robot couldn’t finish 400m)
▫️robot invented the new running style on its own (hands held up near face to reduce shoulder load while legs could keep trucking)
▫️per Global Times, “in a simulated learning environment…the team gave the robot continuous rewards, and through repeated iteration on the data it gradually settled into a posture that suited it better.”

The second human robot Olympics have started.

16 countries are participating, among them Germany, Japan and the U.S. 2000 robots compete in 51 events.

The stars of the event are all Chinese. The US is far behind and has even banned Chinese robots.

At a 100-meter sprint, a humanoid robot achieved a result of 9.39 seconds, beating the human record of 9.58 seconds set by Jamaican athlete Bolt in 2009.

In a standing high jump, a humanoid robot was able to reach 2.88 meters, well above the 0.95 meters best result by a humanoid in last year’s first edition of the games. It surpassed the human high jump record of 2.45 meters set by Cuba’s Javier Sotomayor in 1993.
Both robots were from Beijing-based X-Humanoid.

The way things are going, it will take decades for the first non-Chinese robot to get a medal.

China will dominate the world market like the US did with early automobiles. The Chinese Century has begun.
