During the Summit, I connected with several parents and young people interested in securing fully funded scholarships abroad.
As I mentioned during my address, I have successfully built an AI-powered tool on Scholarships Cafe that matches students with relevant scholarship opportunities and helps them draft their CVs, Statements of Purpose (SOPs), cold emails to professors, and cover letters.
I built this because I understand how overwhelming the process can be. When I applied for the Korean Government Scholarship and the Chinese Government Scholarship, I had to figure things out largely on my own. I don't want you to go through the same struggles.
Today, you can access tools and support that make your scholarship journey easier.

One of my mentees had spent over five years working outside academia before deciding to pursue her Masterโs.
Her challenge was explaining how her professional experience connected to her academic goals. Her applications kept getting rejected.
We helped her identify the skills she had gained through work and connect them to her intended research.
Eventually, she secured a funded research assistantship covering her tuition and living expenses.
A career gap does not automatically disqualify you. You need to show admissions committees how your experience connects to your academic goals.
I will be teaching you how to present your story effectively at my CV & SOP Masterclass on October 24.
Thinking about a Teaching Assistantship? ๐
A Teaching Assistantship offers more than financial support; it builds teaching experience, strengthens academic skills, and opens doors to future opportunities. But with responsibilities that can take 10โ20 hours weekly, balancing teaching and personal research is essential.

At the Muyiwa Igbalajobi Foundation (MIF), access to the right information is a step towards making informed academic and career decisions.

Every meaningful step towards sustainable development begins with a deliberate decision to invest in people.
Coming out of the Ekiti at 30 Future Summit, my conviction is even stronger: one of the greatest investments we can make is creating opportunities for others to grow, learn, and thrive.
When we open doors for the next generation, we are not just changing individual lives. We are building a stronger future for our communities and for Ekiti.
Ekiti must succeed!
@olumuyiwaayo All your mentees think the IDAN way and can confidently represent you in rooms that matter. Just like the mentors for the 100 Ekiti Scholars project
@OIFoundation2
You are truly inspiring, Doc

For 13 years, I have consistently supported students in securing scholarships across the globe, and one thing I have learned is this: desperation does not win scholarships.
Success comes from preparation, strategy, persistence, and clarity of purpose. The students who succeed are those who take the time to research opportunities, craft thoughtful applications, seek guidance when needed, and remain resilient in the face of setbacks.
The conversation we are having today in Ado-Ekiti is a conversation towards your future; so that in the next few years, you too can stand tall and mentor others on their journey.
We build today so you can lead tomorrow!
During our interactive session, Adewale Itunu Rosemary, a passionate History and International Relations graduate from the Federal University Oye-Ekiti, raised a critical question about scholarship pathways for students in the humanities and arts who often feel overlooked.
My response to Itunu and every scholar navigating this path:.
Do not let the utterances of people derail you from your chosen field. Read literature on fundamental gaps, explore them, and read through professors' publications.
Whether in STEM or the humanities, fully funded opportunities exist. Identify the research gaps, align with faculty work, and build a compelling case for your discipline.
Your field of study should never limit your global opportunities!
WANT TO EMAIL A PROFESSOR? START BY UNDERSTANDING THEIR RESEARCH.
During the interactive session at From Ekiti To The World, Tosin Owolabi Bamidele asked an important question: How can aspiring scholars identify a researcherโs area of interest and effectively approach them through a cold email?
In response, Dr Olumuyiwa Igbalajobi ( @olumuyiwaayo ) emphasised the importance of thorough research and personalised communication.
His advice? Don't email a professor without first understanding their work.
๐ Read their publications: Explore their recent journal articles and research papers to understand their interests.
๐ Study their research profile: Visit their university webpage and examine their research projects, academic background, and areas of expertise.
๐ฏ Identify common ground: Connect their research interests with your own academic background, skills, and future goals.
โ๏ธ Write a personalised email: Clearly introduce yourself, demonstrate your understanding of their work, explain how your interests align, and highlight the value you could bring to their research team.
A generic email can easily be overlooked. A well-researched message demonstrates genuine interest, preparation, and professionalism.
Research the professor. Understand their work. Make your email count.

Always define the requirements of the program first, it will guide you on the kind of application you need to make. Clarity beats guesswork every time.
When I started my Masterโs program in South Korea, I was stepping into a country with a completely different language and culture. If I had allowed the language barrier to intimidate me, I would have missed out on the pathway that took me to Germany for my PhD, to Canada for my Postdoc, and eventually to where I am today.
As I told the participants today:
For countries with language barriers relative to your official language, look beyond the language and focus on the skill sets and global exposure you stand to gain.๐ก
Do not let a language barrier limit your ambition. Focus on the value, acquire the skills, and let your achievements speak for you anywhere in the world!
