Our Artist Of The Week is @Skrillex !
If there’s one artist who can bring us a blast from the past while simultaneously propelling us into the future of dance music, it’s Skrillex. Once again, the worldwide producer and DJ has shaken us to our core with yet another surprise album, ‘F*CK U SKRILLEX YOU THINK UR ANDY WARHOL BUT UR NOT!! <3.’
The 34-track, 46-minute album is all-encompassing of Skrillex’s most well known eras, placing genre fluidity and jaw-dropping nostalgia at center stage. Throughout the project’s progression, we hear Skrillex leap from classic genres like dubstep and trap to DnB, stamping each track with his sporadic yet methodical production style.
Formatted as a hype radio station DJ set, the album compels listeners to listen from start-to-finish. That being said, FUS is a no-skip album, with each track seamlessly flowing into the next. At the end, the credits begin to roll as host DJ Smokey thanks collaborators as well as ourselves - the fans.
FUS features both new and past collaborators including ISOxo, Virtual Riot, G Jones, Space Laces, Boys Noize, Swae Lee and others. This cross-over with both new and longstanding generational producers are what render Skrillex a singular tastemaker in the evolution of dance music.
The release of FUS follows Skrillex’s monumental set at Ultra Miami this past weekend. As his first performance on the main stage in a decade, Skrillex pulled out all the stops and brought out artists like Flowdan, Young Miko, and Damian Marley. In addition to dropping new IDs, the set revisited songs that are immortalized in dance music history, including ‘Scary Monsters And Nice Sprites,’ ‘Bangarang,’ his remix of Avicii’s ‘Levels,’ and others.
As for what’s next for Skrillex? We can never be too sure. But, the continuous anticipation of another groundbreaking move is what makes him one of the most dynamic and respected producers of our generation.
