Joined the @G7 Interior Minister meeting today on countering migrant smuggling and trafficking.
Creating regular pathways for migration is one critical way to undermine the criminal networks that exploit vulnerable people on the move. #G7Italy

#Ethiopia: #EU temporarily suspends entry visas to Ethiopian nationals, cites gov’t ‘low level of cooperation’
https://t.co/dIOZxoeD2p
The Council said that the decision was based on regular assessment by the EU Commission on “the cooperation of third countries on readmission” of nationals who are “illegally staying in the EU.”
The suspension decision is temporary but does not come with a specific end date.
Accordingly, it will “no longer be possible for member states” to waive requirements with regard to the evidence to be submitted by Ethiopian visa applicants; to issue multiple entry visas; and to waive the visa fee for holders of #diplomatic and #service passports, which affects Ethiopian diplomats and government employees, respectively.

COMPAS researchers @MarieGodin001 @CVar_Sil and @PRIOresearch's @MariaGJumbert are attending the #MIGNEX24 policy conference in #Brussels today - with over 200 attendees!
The panel "Towards Policy Coherence: Research findings" presented two policy briefs, with interventions by @anna_katharinak @evanroemburg @luca_lixi and Marina Manke (@IOM_GDI).
This is the final #MIGNEX policy event, putting an end to six years policy relevant research on migration.
Europe’s xenophobic politics ignore coming economic decline. Millions of skilled jobs go unfilled but ½ of educated migrants work below their skill level. @LHReports@FT@el_pais@unbiasthenews used newly accessible data to investigate brain waste https://t.co/IGUgWpcWph
How do #EU migration management and development processes relate to each other?
Does a heavy focus on the containment of migration impede development, and what lessons does this offer for future policy ambitions and design?
Really looking forward to speaking at this important event on 24th April in Brussels, do sign up to attend in person or online, link below. Thanks @ODI_Europe for the invitation!
New #MIGNEX survey of 13k young people in Africa + Asia looks at the impact of migration communications campaigns, most of which warn against migration. Overall, these campaigns don't seem to have an effect, and may even *increase* desire to migrate.
