Anyways, ahéhee’ @lori_alvord for paving the way for Native doctors like River and I! We loved hanging with you at Gathering and hope to see you again soon 🥰 happy Indigenous People’s Day to you and all the amazing ndns out there doing good work for their communities!
In honor of #IndigenousPeoplesDay, a short story: my friend River and I were at an @aaip conference and were headed to Gathering of Nations. River goes “hey I found this auntie who helped me get to Gathering!” bc like a true ndn, River missed the shuttle and needed a ride 😑 1/
It wasn’t until today, thanks to @vlocarmen, I realized this random auntie is @lori_alvord aka the 1st Navajo surgeon!! How’d we miss that! We were in the presence of greatness and she was chillin like an auntie. 4/
8 Native women reported missing in E. Montana in last 3 days according to advocates on the ground. Several found alive & being trafficked. Several still missing. One found dead in Yellowstone River. She was my classmate. F* WE ARE STILL DYING! Native women deserve safety. #MMIW
