One month of our dear Sam. After a dramatic start, we are all home and soaking in every quiet (and not-so-quiet) moment. You are so, so, so loved, Sammy Boy.
Our schools buzz with excitement as learning fills classrooms each day. There's a contagious energy when students walk through the doors. That spirit is what #OPSProud Week is all about: celebrating our students, staff & the community that strengthens Omaha Public Schools.
This year brought a new chapter to my career. Definitely some major changes, but I love that I still get to make photos and tell stories of people in #Omaha . Here are my top/favorite/best photos of 2024.

"One of the great things about the Para to Teacher Program is you have an opportunity to grow yourself. For them growing themselves, they’re able to grow our students." Our district welcomes 14 full-time teachers who completed our Para to Educator Program.
Kitty was the love of our lives for the last 11 years, and we are completely broken without him. Kitty was the perfect cat and our best friend. But he’s back home now, in a spot in front of the porch, so he can still watch the birds. We love you so very much, Kitty Butt.

Michael Coleman has reasons to like his place run by the Omaha Housing Authority.
But he also has unwelcome roommates: Bed bugs.

I’ve been procrastinating facing this reality. Today was my last day as a photojournalist with the Omaha World-Herald. This newsroom was a major reason I came back to my hometown, and I’m going to miss my colleagues more than my reputation as a curmudgeon will allow.
I’ll still be able to freelance for the issues I care about, and I’ll still be everywhere all the time.
P.S. some of my current and former colleagues know me and my love for giant earrings too well and they got me several pairs as a going-away gift. 😻

At the same time, I’m excited for what is next both personally and professionally. I’ll join Omaha Public Schools (where I spent all 13 years of my K-12 education) as the district photographer next week. Basically just hanging out with cool kids doing cool things!
