@Alan_Allport Excellent! I hope you are enjoying, that chapter seems to be emerging as a favourite (though not sure favourite is quite the right term given the grim subject matter!)
(2/4) after receiving great feedback, we're excited to say 'A New England' is being performed again at the amazing Tête-à-tête opera festival at the Cockpit in Marylebone, at 7pm on Sat 10th Sept @teteateteopera and it would be great to see some of you there!
(4/4) Together they dreamt of reconstituting the torn and bloody world outside their chamber window in a vision of a new England, forged not by war but by a shared yearning for learning, and quenched by books, language and faith. (I've run out of thread!)
(3/4) It begins in Wessex, 886. As churches burn and Britons are slaughtered by axe-whirling Vikings, a bishop sits at the feet of a scholar-king amid an explosion of books. The opera expresses how England was in some ways shaped by their tender and tempestuous relationship.
(1/4) It was a huge honour (and very sharp learning curve!) to write the libretto for this fantastic medieval opera about Alfred the Great and his biographer Bishop Asser, composed by the insanely talented @willgardner00. Here's a trailer!
What are you doing next Saturday? Why not come on a bacchanalian voyage of destruction, exploring how seven drinks — mead, ale, wine, coffee, chocolate, tea and gin — made London. As featured @guardian@Londonist and with generous servings of all 7 poisons https://t.co/uzp8vwIC49
Extremely excited to announce that my first opera, A New England, is being performed again at the upcoming Tête-à-tête festival! It’s at 19:00 at the Cockpit in Marylebone, and tickets are on sale from https://t.co/CoVl3RzUCI @drmatthewgreen @teteateteopera #TàTFest2022
@2HarcourtBldgs One of the best. Loyal, kind and funny. I met Peter at University and we went on to serve together becoming life long friends. I will miss him and his gravelly Rumpole of the Bailey voice.
very excited to be part of the hottest new literary festival in South London @KirkdaleBooks — and by this wonderful flyer which looks like I’m hosting an Acid night in Camden Town
If the @guardian review has whetted your appetite, the @BBCRadio4 show Ramblings, in which I take @clarebalding on a walk through the two lost cities, is broadcast in FIVE minutes! It's pick of the day in Telegraph, Mail, iPaper, Express & Mirror. Enjoy!
