I am deeply saddened by the tragic loss of NYPD officer Jonathan Diller of Massapequa Park, who lost his life in the line of duty last night. Our community has lost a hero and a guardian and a Long Island family has lost a husband and a father.

My thoughts and prayers are with his family and the brave men and women of the NYPD.

In the New York State Senate, I was proud to co-sponsor S1047, which prohibits discrimination based on gender identity or expression. That bill was signed into law in 2019.

Following the Alabama Supreme Court 's ruling that embryos created through in vitro fertilization are considered children, the University of Alabama at Birmingham has suspended its IVF treatments.
