39 years ago this weekend, the Grateful Dead pulled up to Town Park in Telluride, Colorado for two days of music that the quiet mountain town would never forget. 15,000 Dead Heads showed up ready to jam, far outnumbering the residents in the area, who proved to be accommodating nonetheless. The town set up a dedicated "Dead Village" to handle the overflow, with camping zones spread across Telluride to accommodate the travelling fans’ buses. It was a weekend of community and harmony, with the Dead at the center.
