Last week @ProfGLongMIA & I travelled to Perth & were hosted by @ausdaywa as joint @ausoftheyear: it was a fun & busy few days!
We met with some of the many amazing West Australians! It was a fabulous & packed program in 2 days!
*met with WA Governor,
*presented to medical colleagues (hosted by @CancerCouncilWA),
*had a fun discussion with @oliverpeterson at Kings Park breakfast session with Welcome to Country by incredible Barry Winmar,
*radio interview with @oliverpeterson,
*interactive discussion with very smart high school students at Bob Hawke College,
*recorded a podcast with Marie-Anne Keefe
*participated in the entertaining @MelanomaAus Student Sunsafe Ambassador Program,
*met with many past & present @ausoftheyear winners & other great Australians at an event hosted by CERI founder Charlie Bass & @ausdaywa
*had fun interactive discussion with Forrest Research Foundation scholars & fellows.
We kept spreading the sun safe message because prevention of #melanoma & other skin #cancers is better than cure. Early melanoma detection is also very important: “Know the skin you’re in” & seek advice if you see something new or changing!
Thank you @ausdaywa (including Morgen & Denyse) for your wonderful hosting. And thanks also to my brother Mark & his partner Anna for stepping in to help & support me (Katie had broken her leg & couldn’t come). Finally, fabulous to catch up with friends & colleagues including one of my mentors & prior head of @MelanomaAus John Thompson!

ACRF ACEMID is proud to announce that we've won the @eurekaprizes for Excellence in Interdisciplinary Scientific Research.
This prestigious award recognises our team's dedication and innovative work in uniting diverse scientific fields to advance #melanoma research.
Our new paper on skin checks in primary care found that 1 in 5 skin checks resulted in additional healthcare, which was more likely for people of older age, or living outside the major cities or from more disadvantaged areas @DaffodilCentre@MelanomaAus https://t.co/BeLwcI4kfO…
Skin checks occur in about 1% of general practice consults, with substantial health system costs, according to research that could inform a future Australian #melanoma screening program: https://t.co/6esjdA3SKX

We are really excited too, to have you working with us at the Daffodil Centre! Looking forward to lots of interesting research discussions and helping to make a difference!
I’m excited to be joining @DaffodilCentre as Senior Implementation Scientist in June!
I wasn’t sure if I was ready for this role at first & I’ll miss the @swsydUNSW crew, but the chance to do practice-changing research with a great team was too good to miss. Let’s do this! 1/2
