What happened to Nex Benedict is going to haunt me. That they were non-binary shouldn’t even be an issue. A child was killed by hateful individuals at their school, and they were left to suffer unattended because they were failed by the adults who were in a position to do better, do right by them.

A child, with a good heart and hopes and dreams - just wanting to exist in this world. A child who had parents and friends who loved and supported them.

My heart breaks for Nex. my soul is crushed by the unimaginable cruelty they endured. I cry for the injustice that is sure to come their family’s way as those with black hearts and vacuous souls feel emboldened to dismiss, ignore and make light of.

What the fuck has happened to humanity? How did we get to this place of apathy? As a parent, a mom, a human, I am crying out loud in pain. One that won’t be acknowledged or recognized or heard because the naysayers speak louder.

The voices amplified by a media that has chosen to dismiss and ignore what is happening before all of our eyes. Choosing to side with the fascists and not give the recognition and respect deserved of the marginalized…
