Few people understand the improbability of Lindsay Clancy having psychosis at 8 months postpartum and that leading to her killing her children, so let me quantify using the available data:
1. Incidence of postpartum psychosis: ~0.15%
2. Homicide in untreated first-episode psychosis: ~0.16%
3. Postpartum disease peaks between 10-19 days.
4. The data on incidence of postpartum psychosis cited above stops at 3 months because most literature agrees that beyond that it asymptotically approaches 0.

Conditional probability that she had PPP and killed her children from it = 0.0000024 or 1/416,667. BUT that’s at 3 months. At 8 months? I’ll go on a limb and say probably 0.

However, people try to suggest that because Remeron has the very rare side effect of psychosis so it must’ve been drug-induced. Ok, she was also on Seroquel which is an antipsychotic. I guess that simpleton argument is neutralized.

Because anything is possible, you have to analyze the incident in real time. When you do, you realize it’s absolutely silly to suggest that she hopped into psychosis for 18 minutes, murdered her children, then just hopped right back out without intervention.

Mental hospital. Declared better. Released.
Husband stayed. They had three more kids.
She drowned those three too.

Same house. Same bathtub. Same excuse. Six dead children because a system treated a child killer like a patient who just needed time.

That is the whole argument. Not “was she sad.” Not “did she hear voices.” What happens after you let them out, and who pays for it the second time.

Lindsay Clancy strangled her three kids. People are already writing her a sympathy card and calling prison cruel. Cruel is three little bodies. Cruel is doing it once and getting a path back to freedom. Cruel is pretending history didn’t already run this experiment and lose six kids.

Mental illness can explain how someone gets there. It does not give you a free murder. It does not entitle you to more children. And it does not require the rest of us to wait around and see if the next round dies too.

If you kill your kids, you don’t get to be a mother again. You don’t get a soft landing and a second family. Life without parole. Lock the door. Stop experimenting on other people’s children and making excuses.

Convict her. Convict those who harm children. Period.

I swear to fucking god, I am at an absolute loss for words over the destruction at work here. I grew up in the 80s and 90s; I believed in feminism then. All I wanted was the *opportunity* to become whatever I dreamed of - and I GOT it. We all did! By the early 90s, the sky was the limit for capable people of any race or sex. The world wasn't perfect, but it was damn-near halcyon days for equality [of opportunity].

The last decade has not been kind to those hard-won gains (no need for a long rant on that, but *gestures at world*). But now, this minority of absolute psychotic women is going to destroy everything we fought for and won.

The worst part? I can't even disagree with those saying this whole spectacle proves women can't be trusted with positions of power or responsibility. The amount of shame I feel for my gender is horrifying. I know it's not all women, or even a majority - but it's apparently more than just a few attention-hounds mugging for the camera, too.

And I genuinely do not understand how we got here. Or maybe I do, but, again, no need for that long rant; better to say that I can't believe we're here, and I am heartbroken over it (however, this former attorney will nonetheless manage to "emotionally handle" it). FFS.

If Lindsay Clancy is found innocent because hormones made her emotionally unstable, women better be very careful celebrating that verdict.

Because the law loves PRECEDENT.

From that day forward, every job application is going to have a new question:

“Are you currently hormonal?”

“Well, I’m a woman.”

“Thank you. I think we’ll be going in another direction.”

You can’t carry a weapon anymore. No female police officers. Sorry, but we cannot hand a loaded gun to somebody whose legal defense might eventually be, “My hormones were acting up.”

No more high-stress jobs, either. No air-traffic controllers. No surgeons. No nuclear-launch codes. One bad hot flash and boom 💥 Canada is glowing.

And women definitely can’t be judges. How can you decide whether somebody else is emotionally stable when your own gender just established in court that hormones can make you kill three people?

No female politicians, either. You can’t be trusted to run the country if, according to your own argument, your endocrine system occasionally takes over the government.

And custody hearings are going to change overnight.

The judge will say, “Ordinarily, children belong with their mother. However, according to the Lindsay Clancy precedent, she may be only one hormone away from a Netflix documentary. The children go with Dad.”

Dad doesn’t know their shoe sizes, the pediatrician’s name or which one is allergic to peanuts, but his testosterone has never been successfully used as an insanity defense.

Feminists spent a hundred years saying women are not hysterical, irrational creatures controlled by their biology and one defense attorney walks into court and says, “Ladies and gentlemen of the jury… have you considered the uterus?”

You cannot demand equal authority and then ask for discounted accountability.

If women want equal rights, great. But equal rights come with equal wrongs.
Otherwise, that glass ceiling is about to become a padded ceiling.
