Israeli settlers attacked a CNN news crew, journalists and activists during a visit to Sinjil in the occupied West Bank, smashing a vehicle's windshield, hurling stones at the convoy and attempting to slash a tyre.

The group had travelled with Kamel Musallet to the site where his son, Saif Musallet, was killed by Israeli settlers one year ago. As they left the area, the settlers chased their vehicles back towards the town, forcing them to flee.

A journalist at the scene said the shattered windshield demonstrated the extreme danger Palestinians face when trying to access land that has been occupied by Israeli settlers since last April, warning the consequences could have been even more deadly had Palestinians attempted to return to their own land.

Israel's detention of healthcare workers forms part of a wider strategy to dismantle Gaza's healthcare system. 1,700+ healthcare workers have been killed in Gaza since October 2023 and all of Gaza's hospitals have been damaged or destroyed.

800+ doctors and medical professionals across the UK say that this is evidence of genocidal intent when considered alongside Israel's broader actions in Gaza.

Healthcare workers and facilities are supposed to be protected under international law. We therefore urge the UK Government to:

1. Publicly demand the immediate release of Dr Hussam Abu Safiya and use all economic, political, and diplomatic tools at its disposal to secure his release.

2. Pending his release, demand that he be granted immediate access to adequate medical care and independent monitors, including the International Committee for the Red Cross (ICRC).

3. Ensure accountability for violations of international law, including through supporting the International Criminal Court investigation and ensuring compliance with the International Court of Justice.

Chief Rabbi Sir Ephraim Mirvis, who has a son serving in the Israeli army, has warned the Church of England’s General Synod that it risks damaging Christian-Jewish relations if it proceeds with a motion encouraging engagement with A Moment of Truth: Faith in a Time of Genocide, a document published by Kairos Palestine, also known as Kairos II.

1. Israel has the right to defend itself.

2. Something appears to have happened to some Palestinians.

3. We are waiting for a court to tell us whether it was a crime.

4. No, not that court.

6. Actually, Judge, this is for ministers to decide, not the courts.
