If there’s one thing the Netherlands excels at, it is dealing with water. India has shown considerable interest in our expertise in the field of water management. We’re looking to deepen our cooperation in this area. 

That’s why, together with Prime Minister @narendramodi, I visited an icon among Dutch water engineering structures: the Afsluitdijk barrier dam.

Here, we learned about the history of the dam, how it protects us from flooding and how it enables innovative and sustainable forms of energy.

My Netherlands visit has added new momentum to India-Netherlands ties. From elevating our relationship to a Strategic Partnership to expanding cooperation in water resources, semiconductors, innovation, defence, sustainability and mobility, we have charted an ambitious roadmap for the future.

I express my gratitude to PM Rob Jetten for the warm hospitality and for personally coming to the airport to bid farewell.

I am confident that the friendship between India and the Netherlands will continue to grow stronger in the years to come.

A successful visit concludes!

PM @narendramodi concluded a productive visit to the Netherlands and emplaned for Sweden. Reflecting the warmth of India-Netherlands ties, he was seen off by PM Rob Jetten at the airport.

The visit witnessed several substantive outcomes, including the launch of a new Roadmap for Strategic Partnership, which will further deepen India-Netherlands ties and expand avenues for cooperation across key sectors.

At times of international uncertainty, it’s especially important that we can rely on like-minded and valued partners. Both India and the Netherlands attach great importance to democracy, good governance and a world order based on rules and justice.

My discussion with Prime Minister @narendramodi this evening included the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, which has resulted in high energy prices. As in the Netherlands, the impact on India has been severe too. So it’s vital that this conflict bebrought to an end and that a lasting solution be found. We also spoke about the case regarding the abduction of Insiya to India by her father.

A symbol of engineering excellence and innovation!

Accompanied by PM Rob Jetten of the Netherlands, PM @narendramodi visited the iconic Afsluitdijk Dam, a symbol of Dutch excellence in water management, flood protection and freshwater storage.

The visit highlighted the relevance of Dutch expertise for India’s Kalpasar Project in Gujarat, which aims to create a freshwater reservoir and dam near the Gulf of Khambhat. The visit underscored opportunities for deeper Indo-Dutch collaboration in climate resilience, water technology and sustainable infrastructure.

An area in which the Netherlands has done pioneering work is water resources. There is a lot the entire global community can learn from them.

This morning, I had the opportunity to visit the Afsluitdijk and understand the salient features of this project. I am thankful to PM Rob Jetten for accompanying me here.

We are working to bring modern technology to India aimed at helping in irrigation, flood control and expanding the inland waterway network.

The friendship between India and the Netherlands is in full bloom, asunderscored by the visit of Prime Minister @narendramodi to the Netherlands. We’re now taking that bond to an even higher level as we enter into a Strategic Partnership with one another.

This partnership is already bearing fruit. Multiple letters of intent have been or are being signed this weekend in such areas as defence cooperation, the development of major new technologies and innovations, healthcare and water management. ASML and Tata Electronics have also signed a letter of intent in a key step towards deeper cooperation in the semiconductor industry.

This builds on the major, historic trade agreement concluded between India and the EU earlier this year. In short, we’re making tremendous strides in our cooperation, creating a true win-win situation.

A joyous moment for every Indian!

Chola Copper Plates dating back to the 11th Century will be repatriated to India from the Netherlands. Took part in the ceremony for the same in the presence of Prime Minister Rob Jetten.

The Chola Copper Plates are a set of 21 large plates and 3 small plates and largely contain texts in Tamil, one of the most beautiful languages of the world. They relate to the great Rajendra Chola I formalising an oral commitment made by his father, King Rajaraja I. They also showcase the greatness of the Cholas. We in India are immensely proud of the Cholas, their culture and their maritime prowess.

I thank the Government of the Netherlands and Leiden University in particular, where the Copper Plates were kept since the mid-19th century.
