A 55-minute flight in the iconic Kiran trainer aircraft reunites the Air Chief with the mentor who guided his first flight in 1984, bringing more than four decades of flying to a memorable close.
MORE THAN A FLIGHT: A TRIBUTE TO THE GURU-SHISHYA BOND
THE ICONIC KIRAN: WHERE MEMORIES MEET LEGACY
------------------------
In a poignant moment in Indian Air Force (#IAF) history, Chief of the Air Staff (#CAS) Air Chief Marshal AP Singh completed his final flying sortie in an IAF aircraft, flying the iconic HJT-16 Kiran Mk-1 trainer aircraft alongside his first flying instructor, Wing Commander V. S. Kochar (Retd).
The 55-minute sortie in aircraft bearing tail number U 707 was far more than a flight. It was a deeply symbolic reunion between a #pilot and the #mentor who helped shape his earliest days in the cockpit.
The #journey had begun on 28 January 1984, when Air Chief Marshal AP Singh undertook his first-ever flying sortie. More than four decades later, returning to the skies in the Kiran with his first instructor brought his flying journey in the IAF full circle.
The occasion highlighted the enduring bond between flying instructors and the aircrew they train. Beyond imparting technical skills, instructors shape the discipline, confidence, judgement and professional values that remain with pilots throughout their careers.
The presence of Wg Cdr V. S. Kochar (Retd), who guided the CAS during his formative flying years, lent a special emotional significance to the sortie—connecting the memories of a young trainee's first flight with the culmination of a distinguished flying career.
The HJT-16 Kiran holds a special place in the IAF's flying-training legacy, having served generations of aspiring military pilots. Flying this iconic trainer for his final sortie added another layer of significance to the occasion.
With this flight, Air Chief Marshal AP Singh brought a memorable chapter of his personal flying journey to a close, reflecting a career shaped by experience, discipline and an unwavering commitment to the Indian Air Force.
From his first flight in 1984 to his final sortie alongside the instructor who first guided him, the moment stood as a tribute to the skies, the spirit of flying and the mentors who help build generations of air warriors.

BURN THE REAL RAVANAS, NOT JUST THE POSTERS: A WAKE-UP CALL TO THOSE IN POWER
Dear Politicians, The People Did Not Elect You to Stage Symbolic Victories. They Elected You to Fight the Evils Crushing Their Lives.
What a disturbing spectacle! #Politicians sitting in positions of power, celebrating #RavanDahan by burning effigies bearing the photographs of their political opponents. But before pointing fingers at someone else's Ravan, have you looked at the Ravanas growing right in front of you?
If you truly want to burn evil, stop turning #Dussehra into a political spectacle. Start confronting the evils that ordinary citizens battle every single day.
Burn the Ravan of rising prices that forces families to choose between necessities. Burn the Ravan of unemployment that leaves educated youth struggling for a livelihood. Burn the Ravan of adulterated products that threaten people's health, even after they pay their hard-earned money for what they believe is safe.
Burn the Ravan of crumbling roads & unsafe infrastructure that citizens are forced to endure. Burn the Ravan of arbitrary mobile recharge plans that burden consumers. Burn the Ravan of skyrocketing education costs that push quality education beyond the reach of countless deserving children.
Burn the Ravan of excessive tax burdens that squeeze the common man from every direction. Burn the Ravan of inaccessible healthcare that makes timely treatment a privilege rather than a basic necessity. Burn the Ravan of a system in which the middle class feels increasingly invisible, struggling to survive while its concerns go unheard.
Burn the Ravan of antisocial elements who spread fear & dominate communities, while ordinary citizens yearn for safety, dignity and justice. And above all, confront every credible allegation of electoral malpractice, strengthen electoral transparency, & protect the sanctity of every vote.
These are the Ravanas that deserve the nation's attention.These are the battles that demand political courage, accountability and action.
DEAR POLITICIANS SITTING IN POWER, LISTEN!
The people did not elect you to burn each other's photographs.They did not give you a seat of authority to turn festivals into platforms for political revenge, publicity or point-scoring.
They elected you to govern. To deliver. To protect. To serve.
Ravan Dahan symbolises the victory of good over evil. But what meaning does that victory hold when corruption, exploitation,unemployment,inflation & public suffering continue to haunt ordinary lives?
What is the value of burning an effigy of a political rival when a struggling parent cannot afford a child's education? What is the pride in a grand public spectacle when a patient cannot access affordable treatment? What is the celebration of victory when young people are still waiting for opportunities,roads remain broken and families struggle to make ends meet?
A burning effigy may create headlines for a day.Good governance can transform millions of lives for generations.
Let your political rivalry be fought through better policies,stronger public services,transparent institutions and meaningful development—not merely through photographs attached to effigies.
The people are watching. They are paying taxes.They are exercising their democratic rights.And they have every right to demand answers from those entrusted with power.
So, before lighting the next effigy,ask yourselves one uncomfortable question:
Have you defeated the Ravanas troubling the people, or have you simply found another Ravan to blame?
Dear politicians,power is not a permanent privilege. It is a public responsibility.The chair you occupy belongs to the people, & the trust that places you there must be earned every day.
STOP BURNING POLITICAL PHOTOGRAPHS. START BURNING THE EVILS THAT ARE DESTROYING PEOPLE'S LIVES.
The nation needs less political theatre & more accountability.Less hatred & more humanity.
JARA SHARAM KARO. THE PEOPLE DESERVE BETTER.
