🚨BREAKING: In the Chicago suburbs, an ICE agent assaults a teenager for filming his vehicle, and pointing out that it illegally has no license plate.

In the video, a U.S. citizen is peacefully filming an ICE vehicle, that is sitting in a parking lot. He walks to the back of the SUV to document that it has no license plate.

That’s when the ICE agent jumps out, screaming, “Get away from my vehicle!” while aggressively charging toward the teenager.

The teenager immediately backs away, but the ICE agent keeps walking at him, tries to trip the teenager , and continues yelling… even though neither of them are anywhere near the vehicle anymore.

Filming government officials performing their duties, in public, is protected by the First Amendment. That protection doesn’t disappear just because the official doesn’t like being recorded.

An officer also can’t lawfully use physical force simply because someone is filming them. Using force, to stop someone from recording, is a violation of that person’s constitutional rights.

And let’s not ignore the reason the ICE agent got out of his car in the first place...

Illinois law requires vehicles, driven on public roads, to display valid registration plates. This ICE vehicle is not following that law.

So, if your first instinct, when someone records your conduct, is to assault them… you’re proving exactly why the public is recording in the first place.

I served two combat tours in Iraq. I’ve seen what happens when a lying, chicken-hawk President beats the war drums. I ran for Congress and serve on the Armed Services Committee because I refuse to let the country I love repeat those mistakes.

It’s why we passed the War Powers Act (after Vietnam) in the first place. 

So that before the President sends our troops into harm’s way, he has to make his case TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE.

Trump hasn’t done that. He hasn’t explained his goals. 

He hasn't told you what it will cost – both in our tax dollars and (God forbid) our kids coming home in flag-draped coffins.  

That’s why I cosponsored Congressman Khanna and Congressman Massie’s War Powers Resolution. And why I’m calling for a vote IMMEDIATELY. 

To force an honest conversation as a country about what comes next. To stop yet another forever war.

We cannot repeat our approach from 2001 and 2002.  The answer cannot be “we’ll figure it out as we go.” I lost too many friends because of that logic. As I said after the attack on Iran’s nuclear sites last June: Air strikes may start a war. They rarely end it.

Dario Amodei just gave his first interview since the Pentagon blacklisted his company. The toll is visible on his face.

He was asked one question. What would you say to the President right now?

He didn’t hesitate.

Amodei: “We are patriotic Americans. Everything we have done has been for the sake of this country.”

Anthropic built their models to defend America. They were the first AI lab cleared for classified military systems. They wanted to help the warfighter.

But the Pentagon demanded unrestricted access to fully autonomous weapons and mass surveillance of American citizens.

Amodei drew the line.

The government responded with emergency Cold War powers. A supply chain designation normally reserved for foreign adversaries. A six-month federal phaseout ordered from Truth Social.

Amodei: “When we were threatened with supply chain designation and Defense Production Act, which are unprecedented intrusions into the private economy, we exercised our classic First Amendment rights to speak up and disagree with the government.”

The administration framed Anthropic’s refusal as anti-American.

Amodei’s response dismantled that framing in one sentence.

Amodei: “Disagreeing with the government is the most American thing in the world.”

Here is the deeper paradox nobody in Washington wants to say out loud.

We are in a geopolitical race against autocratic adversaries who use AI for mass surveillance of their own citizens and autonomous weapons with no human oversight.

The Pentagon demanded that Anthropic build those exact capabilities for America.

Amodei: “The red lines we have drawn, we drew because we believe that crossing those red lines is contrary to American values.”

You cannot defeat authoritarianism by adopting its methods.

You cannot defend the open society by forcing private companies to build its antithesis under threat of wartime emergency powers.

Anthropic held the line. Got blacklisted for it. And came out the other side saying the same thing they said going in.

That is what it actually looks like to mean it.
