Week 3 - United Utilities is still discharging sewage into Englands largest and most iconic lake.
Why do we need an end to all sewage in Windermere?
United Utilities is not only discharging untreated sewage into Windermere, but there’s also the issue of treated sewage. When tallying all discharge limits set by the Environment Agency, this equates to approximately 13,000 cubic meters or up to 13 million litres A DAY permitted from just some of their wastewater treatment works in the catchment. This figure excludes volumes of untreated sewage spilling (which we don’t know as they won’t tell us).
In locations like Near Sawrey, this can be particularly damaging because an unlimited amount of phosphorus is permitted to be discharged from the site. The largest site in the catchment, Windermere Wastewater Treatment Works, is allowed to discharge 5,559 cubic meters or 5.5 million litres a day directly into Windermere. According to their own 2020 modeling, United Utilities state that treated sewage is having a much larger impact on Windermere. Consequently, their proposed investment to reduce ‘storm spilling’ at four sites is insufficient for the long-term protection of Windermere. Hence, our demand for complete removal.

Bloody Farmers keeping sheep for wool!!!!
Just shy of 1.4tonne of wool comes to £139.54
In a world that people stand and shout about oil wearing synthetic fibres, yet wool is a waste product. I think i’m going to try compost ours next year. Surely worth more as feed for soil.
@Lorraines_Veg I have stopped blocking or interacting with the constant ads just scroll past they soon change to something else I don’t think there is any way of stopping them so just ignore

Please, please, please @sainsburys can you stop selling these landscape incendiaries on the edge of national parks. Our brave firefighters are spending hours extinguishing fires - as a result of the £3 spent in stores like yours. Be “better for the planet”.
A box that is used to rescue people who get into trouble in the Scafell Pike area was damaged by vandals over the bank holiday weekend.
The box, that's maintained by the Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team, contains lifesaving equipment.
