When your daughter is somewhere around 7 or 8, especially 9, she will find where you are and sort of linger. Dads often say, "What do you need?" Very male coded. The kid wants to hang out, not do anything specific or anything, and doesn't know how to express it. Something I saw on a parenting page that held up well.
