BREAKING: Katowice, once the heart of Polish coal, joins the PPCA🎉

The city becomes the sixth Polish member of the PPCA 💪
We're partnering w/@BloombergDotOrg to lead North Macedonia’s clean energy transformation. This collaboration is creating a powerful model for how MDBs & philanthropy can work together to drive meaningful progress and mobilise support for sustainable energy transitions.
There's a lot we can do to unlock the financing & policy mechanisms we need to phase out coal once and for all.
A new report by the Coal Transition Commission outlines actionable recommendations to accelerate the coal phase-out in line with 1.5°C: https://t.co/9Rop8xgL8Z #COP29
A transformative milestone with the first-ever partnership between @EBRD and @BloombergDotOrg! Together, we’re advancing North Macedonia’s shift away from coal, help mobilise capital to accelerate the path to a clean energy future.
Coal is the single largest contributor of global warming.
By phasing out coal, we can reduce emissions, protect public health, and halt the progression of climate change. Today’s closure of the Ratcliffe-on-Soar Power Station, the last coal plant in the UK, is a monumental step for the UK to fulfill its commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and reaching net-zero by 2050.
A major milestone today as the UK closes its last coal plant. In 2012, the UK still burned coal to generate 40% of its electricity. Today, the UK becomes the first G7 member to phaseout coal from its electricity mix.
The UK was the first country to open a public coal-fired power station in 1882 – and now it is going to be the first G7 economy to close its last one down.
This rapid phaseout proves countries can transition from coal to clean at pace:

Working towards our targets will increase the demand for critical raw materials.
This is why the @UN SG’s Panel on Critical Energy Transition Minerals has my full support.
We will continue working together for robust supply chains, transparent and fair throughout.
When we rallied behind global targets to triple renewables at COP28, it was one of these moments when the world feels united as one.
Now we must double down on implementation, collectively, to reach these targets ↓ https://t.co/nHy79Pg03a
