It’s hard to wake up on 9/11 as we’re living through a slow-motion version of something that feels strangely similar. Man’s deepest depravity can produce unimaginable horrors. Nothing showed that to my generation more clearly than September 11, 2001.
But we can’t forget that it also showed us humanity at its noblest and best. Many of the names now etched in stone memorials belonged to very ordinary Americans who—on the day when their deepest test came literally out of the clear blue sky—showed the courage and self-sacrifice of heroes.
Let’s remember them today: to mourn, but also to remember who we are at our best. Brave. Clear-eyed about good and evil. Ready to defend the good. Full of the love of neighbor that is the soul of patriotism. This is who they were—and who we must become again.
And please pray: for those who have been grieving 24 years and those who haven’t yet been grieving 24 hours. We need God’s help today.
@SpeakerPelosi@HouseGOP Just stop with your political propaganda. You don’t care about anyone or anything except lining your own damn pockets like a typical politician. You are outrageous, you stupid, pathetic, pandering witch!
