@BasedHarun@Hestia_Esq Stupid men who don’t understand how the world works assume that anything that a woman accomplishes that they could not is because of DEI.
@tj_ms1989@phl43 Perhaps as we shifted towards more sophisticated knowledge work through the digitized economy, people globally feel the pressure to raise a child that can succeed with the skill set required, which requires a lot of educational investment, making each child more costly
@tj_ms1989@phl43 Not sure. People who really study the data see that every hypothesis about the global TFR plumment of the last 15 years has is exceptions. But I suspect it is related to the greater cost of raising a child to develop the skills needed to succeed in a knowledge based economy.
@tj_ms1989@phl43 In central europe, TFR rose till the late 2010s. Why would women in central europe be less and less averse to unpaid labor until 2018 and then suddenly freak out about it so TFR plummeted in the last several years?
@tj_ms1989@phl43 Also, your claim about unpaid labor makes no sense when you look at the historical trend. TFR rose in the US from the 1970s until it was at replacement in 2008 and then it plummetted and levelled out in 2020. Why would US women be less and less averse to unpaid labor until 2008?
@tj_ms1989@phl43 What are you not grasping here? The BC prevalence in that region is as high as much of europe and the anglo world yet their TFR is substantially above replacement.
@tj_ms1989@phl43 And southern sub saharan africa is not random cherry picking. It is a well understood region of africa, similar to how north africa differs from the rest of africa.
@tj_ms1989@phl43 I am trying to explain to you that the high prevalence of BC in southern sub saharan africa along with women's higher share of childcare shows that even with the option of avoiding pregnancy, unpaid labor burdens do not necessarily drive women away from having many kids
@LizzyStarrrdust And of course this particularly woman is not average. For her to compete a dphil at Oxford in biology, her iq floor is higher than at least 97% of the worlds men. Men do not understand how the world works when they think DEI is the difference between them and her.
@LizzyStarrrdust Facts of life- this woman is of Anglo/nordic descent, and the avg iq of such women is 102. The global avg iq is 86, meaning that 85% of the worlds men are less intelligent than the AVERAGE woman who looks like that. Many twitter men are out here from Pakistan and Nigeria and shit
@LizzyStarrrdust Men have a cultural expectation of being the leader that women are supposed to cater to and obey. Reality is that the vast majority of the worlds men lack the intellectual competence to make life decisions for this woman because she is smarter and has better long term planning.
@LizzyStarrrdust If opportunity were completely equally distributed and there was no DEI, a woman who looks like this would be substantially more academically accomplished, earn more and have a more prestigious job than the vast majority of the world men based purely on merit.
@tj_ms1989@phl43 The women in these SSA countries are primary providers for their kids as men mostly do not live in the same household as their children and provide irregular financial support. The women (who have good access to BC) choose to have 3-4 kids, despite having to do most of the work
@tj_ms1989@phl43 You can see here that in southern sub saharan africa, the usage of BC is comparable to several western countries. Yet their TFRs are in the 3-4 range. https://t.co/niutiOwdHV
@therealrthorat@phl43 This 2 are contradicted by a lot of data now. For ex, Iran, Turkey and south India have lower TFRs than the US and scandanavia despite them being far more attached to traditional gender roles. BC usage correlates surprisingly poorly to TFRs across middle and high income countries
@tj_ms1989@phl43 This is quite wrong. There were not more hours in the day when people had 6 kids each. Women’s aversion to unpaid work is highly unlikely to be a major factor in TFR decline as seen by the high TFRs in countries like Namibia and Zimbabwe, which have high birth control prevalence
@nobumpersticker Men eventually pursue more demanding careers and women pursue more flexible careers if they are interested in motherhood, so men make more $$ long term. And boys exhibit some cognitive innate advantages- slightly in numerical reasoning but substantially in spatial reasoning.
@nobumpersticker It's very difficult to discern which gender is smarter because they behave in such different ways and pursue such different interests. Girls get better grades and take a greater number of advanced courses and pursue higher ed in greater numbers, but boys express other strengths
