She/her, pan, 27, autistic, ADHD, anxiety and fibromyalgia. it’s a tough world we live in. just here to be myself. anthropology and nature 🌻 #actuallyautistic
@SNeurotypicals I’m an anthropology major and took a linguistic anthropology class and that was so fascinating how much goes into language. I wrote a paper on language and disability. It really depends what branch you go into. I also decided to take a humanities class which was insightful.
"Everyone is forgetful sometimes, that's not an ADHD thing!"
Really, Chad? Really?
You know that feeling when you walk into a room and forgot what you went in there for?
It’s happened to me ✨4 times✨ in the last 15 minutes.
Is that the same?
ARE WE THE SAME
Autistic masking is so much more than simply choosing the “right” words, body language, clothes and options. It’s: a) quickly processing huge amounts of complex data to deduce what those things are; b) monitoring how they change; and c) repeatedly and seamlessly adapting to them.
One reason why autistic people are often misunderstood no matter how clear, precise and straightforward they are is that neurotypical people tend to focus more on how a person’s body language reads (according to their neurotype’s customs) than a person’s literal wording.
@jessejanderson So my bf and me both have ADHD. He is one who is always late! I’m for the most part either early or on time, rarely late. For me it was because I grew up in that environment. My mom was always early to everything
Shoutout to everyone with ADHD who sits in the front row and nods (because if you don’t stay engaged, you’ll space out) and takes obsessive notes (because if you don’t write everything down, you’ll forget it)
@AnnMemmott I remember as a child that sometimes if me and my family were eating something I hated, such as lasagna, I can’t stand the texture of the cheese! My dad would make me sit at the table until I ate it. Forcing people to do this is not okay
