The fastest-growing company in history sells human judgment by the hour.

Mercor went from $1M to $2B in ARR in 24 months. The product is doctors, lawyers, and bankers grading AI's homework at $85+ an hour, with over $2 million per day flowing to those experts.

The mechanism explains everything. Labs already scraped the free internet. Pretraining data ran out, so the frontier shifted to reinforcement learning on real work: give the model a task, let it attempt the job, score the result. Scoring is the bottleneck. Only a real banker can tell whether the AI did banking work right.

That creates a brutal escalation. In 2016, training data meant clicking stoplights for pennies. In 2026 it means a specialist physician reviewing model reasoning for hundreds an hour, because the models got good enough that only top experts can still find the failures. Every capability jump raises the price of the humans required to produce the next one.

The timing had an accelerant too. Meta bought 49% of Scale AI for $14.3B in June 2025, the major labs cut ties within 90 days, and Mercor absorbed the stampede of demand.

Most of that $2B passes straight through to the experts, which is exactly the point. Expert judgment became the scarcest input in AI. The machines learned everything the internet had to teach.

Now they pay tuition.

@phreakv6 @aarbhat Depends on your goal. IF your goal is to run a marathon, then maximizing time in zone 2 zone 3 will be ideal. You can set HR limits on your watch and it will remind you to slow down when you reach the limit.
