It’s been fun helping founders with their fundraise over the last few weeks..
However, the common problem I continue to see in most of them (esp first time founders) is storytelling.
There’s a lot of literature on this already and I wrote a longer post a few weeks ago that I’ll link in the next thread — but here’s a few salient points on this that have been resonating:
> you have ~7 mins to capture the room or lose it.
> keep slides and you talking to m 20mins max. ideally 15.
> to get a VC to lean in, each slide should have a unique insight or takeaway. almost think about what’s going to be so interesting that it’ll compel them to write down.
> each slide should meaningfully set up the next one.
> for the best pitches, there’s almost a secret on tech, market and GTM that you’ve found that no one else has discovered. ideally it’s all three, but even 2/3 is good. it definitely can’t be just one.
> read the room and the biases people have before you get in. If the GP is more market focused, cover those bases thoroughly.
> you need to leave the room with people thinking that this is an ambitious vision, with a large surface area and you are the tenacious person to capture this vision. all three are important.
> finally, be authentic, find a voice that works for you and don’t be disappointed if the chips don’t fall your way. continue to dial it in!
Hope this helps ✌️
@NalinisKitchen Karnataka’s sheer failure is their obsession with kannada in the name of culture. Period. They hide hate behind this obsession and their failure of infrastructure too.
