The level of capacity offered by companies that started operation since 2020Q1 is expected to exceed a milestone of 2m TEU in 2023Q3, up by 116% compared with 2022Q3. However, their offer accounts for less than 4% of the global capacity and to 1.3% of the deepsea capacity.
The total capacity of containerships scrapped so far in 2023 has amounted to 58,000teu, this represents 0.26% of the existing containership fleet in 2023Q3. The capacity of containerships sent for scrappage in 2022 totaled 9,200teu.

Almost 80% of the capacity scheduled to be offered by 2M in 2023Q3 is expected to be operated entirely by either Maersk or MSC. Focusing on the various trade lanes, it is increasingly looking as though the two carriers are ready to depart from 2M on the Far East – Europe routes.
Europe and the Mediterranean are increasingly overtaking the US as a key container trade for East Coast of South America (ECSA) exports, especially from Brazil, with carriers launching new services and deploying more vessels on the corridor.
