Inspect the Foundation Before You Build:

“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.” — Matthew 7:24

📕 Devotional Thought:
One of the most humbling lessons I’ve learned as a coach is this: every year is a rebuild year. Not because the past failed, but because the people are different. New hearts. New personalities. New needs.

Early on, I made the mistake of assuming that growth meant adding more—more expectations, more systems, more responsibility—without first stopping to inspect the foundation. As our team grew, I tried to build upward before ensuring the base was still solid. What I didn’t realize was that unseen cracks don’t disappear just because you add layers on top of them.

A foundation that once held strong can weaken if it’s not continually reinforced. Culture, trust, humility, and commitment don’t carry over automatically from one season to the next. They must be re-taught, re-lived, and re-owned.

Jesus reminds us that wisdom isn’t found in how much we build, but what we build on. When we add before repairing, before strengthening our foundation daily in the Word of God, the structure may look impressive—but it won’t be steady. When pressure comes, instability is revealed.

As leaders, we must slow down long enough to ask hard questions:
Is our foundation still strong?
Are we aligned in purpose?
Have we assumed buy-in without re-establishing it?

Strong teams aren’t built by rushing to the next layer. They’re built by patiently strengthening what already exists.

🙏 Prayer:
Lord, give me the humility to inspect before I build. Help me not confuse activity with progress or growth with strength. Reveal any cracks in my leadership, my team, or my heart. Teach me to value foundations over appearances, and faithfulness over speed. Amen.
