Continuing on the music theory nerd trend, what are examples of successful downward key changes? I have Whitney’s “How Will I Know” and The Pretenders’ “I’ll Stand any You” https://t.co/6BWRwfBDDs
I woke up to a big C# diminished 7th chord. Kids playing with auto-accompaniment on our keyboard... Broadway 2-beat just sitting on all that tension. This can’t be a good omen. Also, powerful symbol for the last… https://t.co/BhNTNZlYHR
@SteveHolley_ Yes! While we’re asking those Music Ed programs to change, let’s think about the whole college music experience. I have so many gifted students who would like to think about music in college, but they don’t fit the mold #musedchat
@kellyapetro My hip hop Ss “see” music totally differently... timeline/piano roll/drum sequencer as their own systems of notation. Very useful for this type of music. I find even students in traditional ensembles can benefit from looking at rhythm this way #musedchat
@TDucassoux Well said, I think part of the discomfort surrounding change is just the insane work load and lack of time to reflect/plan for something new. Once we’re on the roller coaster, it’s easiest to stay with the path of least resistance #musedchat
A3 Let’s keep in mind all of the students who may have this said about them elsewhere and actually thrive in our classes! I love filling out Sp Ed updates just saying “I had completely forgotten this student has an IEP!” #musedchat
@jguarr Great perspective! I think this can also be an opportunity to advocate for your/your students’ needs. The language in some IEPs is 80% of the day with an SEA, and unfortunately that can mean no help in music/art/etc. #musedchat
So good to hear young people speak their truth today at #madisonsoapbox. “The ACT can kiss my ADHD!” #projectsoapbox#hiphoped @ Overture Center for the Arts https://t.co/nVWwv2DAh1
“Y’all know the episode of Fresh Prince when his dad leaves?” That’s the start of something insightful. So thankful for this group of kids and this conversation #hiphoped
The deepest class conversation today about authenticity in art, music, poetry, hip hop. Every student heatedly involved. One student started to leave with the bathroom class and then decided to stay. Yes. #hiphoped
@jguarr Stephen Sieck’s “Teaching With Respect” is written from a choral perspective but applicable to all music classrooms. Important, thought-provoking reading on making our curriculum inclusive and our classrooms safe spaces https://t.co/DgUWzYxpPu #musedchat
My brother’s family holiday video is the thing I look forward to most every year! Enjoy and share! https://t.co/1Pzpx5sGnF #HappyHolidays#MerryChristmas
Then there are the nights when you’re just a few feet away from @TenorPiper as he begins Cavalleria Rusticana offstage. How lucky! What a sound! #madisonopera
