Chief Alabi Ogundepo, a renowned Saki-born Yoruba oral poet, writer, and legendary Ìjàlà chanter, has passed on at the age of 84.

He was a master of Ìjàlà (traditional Yoruba hunters' chants) and Oríkì praise poetry, who spent over 50 years performing and promoting indigenous oral literature on stage, radio, and television.

Ogundepo became a household name through public service radio jingles, such as the road safety campaign "Eso Pele Onimoto Rora Saare" on Radio Oyo and BCOS Ibadan.H

He created the cultural program "Akiika" for NTA Ibadan to preserve Yoruba history and traditions.
