Media Release | Queensland Holds the Line Against Trans Ideology

Queensland continues to lead the nation in standing firm against radical trans activism by reinstating a ban on puberty blockers and cross-sex hormone treatments for children under 18.

One Nation leader Senator Pauline Hanson said she had written to Health Minister Tim Nicholls to congratulate the Crisafulli Government for reinstating the ban after trans activists attempted to overturn it in the Supreme Court.

"The evidence is piling up that these treatments are harmful to children," Senator Hanson said.

"After a targeted review which took evidence from clinical experts and representatives of so-called 'trans' patients, the United Kingdom’s Independent Commission on Human Medicines concluded these treatments pose an unacceptable safety risk to children."

"The UK Labour Government then implemented a ban on these treatments for minors. Other countries, including New Zealand, have followed by reviewing the so-called 'gender affirmation' approach and issuing new guidelines banning it."

"Other inquiries, including the landmark Cass Review in the UK, found virtually no clinical evidence supporting the use of these treatments for children."

Senator Hanson also raised concerns about the lack of action from Australia’s own health authorities.

"The National Health and Medical Research Council is meant to be developing new guidelines for treating children with 'gender dysphoria', but at Senate Estimates, when I asked if the impacts of puberty blockers were reversible, I was told no evidence had even been collected or reviewed to answer that question."

"These drugs aren’t even approved by the Therapeutic Goods Administration."

"This is an appalling situation. Thousands of Australian children are being indoctrinated – including through our education system – to believe that normal childhood stress or anxiety is ‘gender dysphoria’ and that the solution is to change gender using unapproved, experimental drugs that are clinically proven to cause irreversible harm."

"I strongly encourage the Queensland Education Minister to intervene and put a stop to this."

Senator Hanson welcomed Queensland’s action:

"Queensland is finally getting it right after years of Labor allowing our kids to be brainwashed and mistreated by this radical, exclusionary and violent ideology. The rest of Australia must follow Queensland’s example and ban these treatments for children."
