A wonderful day spent at our Coptic Orthodox Church Centre in #RasAlKhema for the inaugural #UAE University and Young Adults Conference, reflecting on the image we show, the image we believe, and the image we reclaim.
“What do we compare ourselves to? To the righteousness of God. The image of God. The holiness of God. We do not compare ourselves to condemn ourselves, but to see how we can become better; how we can be our best selves; how we can be perfect as our Father in heaven is perfect…aspiring to that perfection.”
There was also time for an old favourite.
Things can change in a blink of an eye … it is tough watching photos of a “year ago” and think “who would have imagined life will change so much” since then
It’s after midnight, but it’s still May the fourth somewhere in the world, and I didn’t want the annual ‘break the internet’ opportunity to pass…
I know…I know…He’s the bad guy…but just go with the moment…
Returned late one evening and switched my television on to discover the end of the Richard Dimbleby Lecture, given by former @England manager, Sir @GarethSouthgate. Such a gracious and thoughtful person, and an example of encouraging and empowering leadership for young men and women alike, but in this lecture, focusing on young men, whom he sees as “…suffering…feeling isolated...grappling with their masculinity and with their broader place in society.”
Some food for thought:
“I saw the effects of the decisions I didn’t take.”
“One of the most impactful things we can do for women is to focus on improving young men.”
“We need leaders to set the right tone. To be the role models we want for our young men. We have to show young men that character is more important than status. That how you treat others is more important than how much money you make.”
“Not everyone will win trophies. Not everyone will be at the top of their field. But everyone can live a life where they can constantly strive to improve. Where they can look back and say, ‘I gave my best, I stayed true to myself, and I made a difference.’ That is real success.”
