A viral Turkish post calls for Turks to “reclaim ancestral lands” in Bulgaria by gaining citizenship and buying property. With Bulgaria’s population shrinking fast, this reads like a coronation of demographic ambition not history. 🚨

Translation:

“The population of Bulgaria is collapsing. If the Turks in Bulgaria can maintain their numbers, in the future half — maybe even more — of Bulgaria’s population will be Turkish.

I think citizens of the Republic of Turkey who have the means should obtain Bulgarian citizenship. They should become dual citizens. This isn’t a bad thing — it means one more Turk having a voice in Bulgaria.

Turks with financial means should also acquire property in Bulgaria. Buy houses, buy land, buy vineyards and gardens. Own immovable property in Bulgaria.

Those lands are our ancestral lands. We’re not after something that doesn’t belong to us. Those lands were under Turkish rule for hundreds of years.
