@m_druker Most people see speeding as normal (myself included), and I am not sure how you would shift that norm. Most people will never directly experience the harms from speeding. We need very narrow road designs, automatic speed governors on cars, or very consistent enforcement.

@m_druker Also, most people walk their dog close to home, where they are more likely to be seen by neighbors or friends. The same people who put up signs like, "Drive like your children play here," will then happily speed in someone else's neighborhood.

@m_druker It's easy to point at dog shit and explain why that particular pile is bad - it stinks, attracts flies, looks bad, etc. Any one episode of speeding is ok. 99%+ of the time no one is harmed. It's often annoying when someone is NOT speeding. You have to explain harms statistically.

@brownecfm This is giving people too much credit. Most people don't consciously try to ignore or avoid COVID news. It just doesn't appear on the front page, in nightly news, or during social conversations. This is simple frequency bias - if I don't hear about it, then it is not important.

It's interesting how quickly all that was installed, and then abandoned just as quickly, yet no one seems in a hurry to actually remove it. I don't know if it's just about laziness or some sort of perceived liability protection. 2/2

We need a word or phrase to describe the leftover relics of the initial phase of the COVID pandemic - the 6ft distance markers, unheaded "wear a mask" signs, empty hand sanitizer stations, etc. I propose: "cognitive obsolescence". 1/2

@mobydickenergy Also, for those who stayed home, it was such a different day to day reality from before/after. It just doesn't fit into normal day to day conversation. Like a long hospital stay that you don't talk about outside of specific contexts.

@mobydickenergy I've thought about this very topic a lot. I think for a lot of people it was a traumatic experience (not getting sick, but the fear, unknown, lockdowns). It is a natural reaction to not discuss it. 1/2

@m_druker @BrandonMattalo I like that you can now ride all the way across where the Iron Horse trail crosses Courtland. People always did this, but the multiuse trail markings and bike signals make it legit. However, you still have to wait for 2 light cycles!

Furthermore, the Go train is comfortable enough to work remotely, so one could start work when they get on the train. I think it's a safe assumption that most people commuting to DT Toronto from Kitchener are office workers who already work remote part of the week! 2/2

I am not saying people shouldn't protect themselves on an individual level. I wore a mask during most of the show preparations. I am just saying it's easier to deal with COVID when managing groups of people. /4

I am encouraged to see that the overall trend is changing from massive waves to smaller ripples, and all without closures or restrictions. While we may not have achieved herd immunity, some combination of vaccine boosters and ongoing infection is maintaining partial immunity.

COVID in Ontario this week - a steady decline in hospitalized patients, fewer deaths, and flat ICU admissions.

I was thinking about this during the run up to FASS (our amateur theater show). I just assumed someone at some point was probably sick, but there wasn't the fear that we'd all be sent into quarantine or all get sick. The show could go on! /3
